Energy efficiency practices for T&T
1. How can we become more
Energy Efficient in Trinidad
and Tobago
Brendon James BA MBA MSc
OSH MBA SEM
2. What can we do as
consumers?
β’ Adjust your day to day behaviours using
technology.
β’ High tech (Think smart home)-
Controlled lighting/devices using services
such as Alexa/Google Nest to be energy
efficient.
β’ Low Tech- I use personally motion
sensors connected to exterior lighting
and internal lighting to automatically
switch off lights in rooms when no one is
around- (they have back up LED batters
that keep them lighting for four hours if
there is a power outage)
3. What can we do
as consumers?
1. Service your home water
pumpβ¦..
2. Turn off the pump when you
are not at homeβ¦..
5. Purchase energy
efficient appliances
β’ When purchasing an energy efficient
appliance, you should look for
appliances with the ENERGY STAR label,
which is a US federal guarantee that the
appliance will consume less energy
during use and when on standby than
standard non-energy efficient models
6. Unplug Electronics
When not in Use
β’ Unplug rarely-used appliances to decrease
energy usage around the house. Unplugging
electronics like charging devices for phones,
tablets, and digital cameras can increase your
energy efficiency. Using a power strip with an
on/off switch makes it easy to decrease
electricity use by powering off multiple
electronics at once.
