members, my ministerial colleague the
Minister of Labour, distinguished guests,
ladies and gentlemen . . . Good evening.
I am pleased to join you this evening in
celebration of the 3rd Annual Bermuda
Construction Safety Council’s Premier’s
Awards, recognizing the outstanding
achievements and contributions of
Bermuda’s top talent in construction,
technical and trade industries.

THE
8. Ndavyah Williams is a former Cedarbridge Academy student, a winner of the
Duke of Edinburg Award, a Bermuda Rugby team player and a member of the
Crane Operators Association. Williams is enrolled in the Bermuda Regiment and
is this years winner of the Most Dedicated Award. The Most Dedicated award is
given to an outstanding worker who continues to strive forward keeping
Bermuda safe, healthy and beautiful. Presented by Dr. Judy Ming.
Dr. Ming who obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Southeastern
University in Washington D.C. In her senior year she was the recipient of The
National Association of Black Accountants, Inc., and Metropolitan Washington,
D.C. chapter’s Scholarship Award for the academic year 1989-90. Ming later
attended the Keller Graduate School of Management to obtain a Master of
Business Administration degree and finally completed her Doctorate of
Management in Organizational Leadership.

9. Lifetime acheivement
This Years lifetime achievement winner is Patrice Perinchief for her long
service as an emergency medical technician. Patrice Perinchief, affectionally
known as “Patty” is a long time staff member at Bermuda Hospital Boards
since September 1983. A Berkeleyite she later joined the team of Dallas Fire
Department Paramedics in Texas. In January 1996, Patty embarked on her
career as the First Female Emergency Medical Technician. During her tenure,
she became an American Heart Association CPR Instructor and a Pan
American Healthcare Organization Instructor, which she presently still enjoys
her mobile business- “Put Your Heart into It” as an AHA instructor.
10. Most Inspirational
Nikki Bascome is this year’s Most Inspirational Person of the Year.
Bascome was valedictorian of his high school and he is also a community
activist giving back to the youth. An entrepreneur, he applies his
credentials for the future. A singer in his own musical group and is a boxing
champion. Presented by Councilwoman Marilyn Richardson.

Hosange Clarke is a professor at the Cerdarbridge Academy
completing his Masters Degree in education Clarke is also a National
Center for Construction and Education and Research Master trainer.
Clarke is also a top striker for the champions Prospect United in the
Master League. Presenter by Ms Nicole Caines who is a manager
for the Paget Health Services.
13. FIRE DEPARTMENT
Steven Caisey is this year Fire Fighter of the year. Caisey is based in Port
Royal Fire station who stated he accepted his award on behalf of his entire
team. He is Seen here with Michelle Fox who is a Warwick Academy
graduate having completed her education degree through Bermuda college
and Plymouth state university in new Hampshire. In her spare time she
enjoys artwork baking and the outdoors and is an avid somerset cricket club
fan.
14. EVENTS
Debbie Correia is a volunteer with St Johns Ambulance and is
recognized this year for her contribution providing medical coverage
at public events. As one of the island’s oldest charities, St John
Ambulance has been attending to the first aid needs of the Bermuda
community since 1894. As part of a global organisation known as the
Order of St John whose history dates back to 11th century
Jerusalem. Debbie Corriea is also a professor of law at the Bermuda
College.
15. POLICE
Christopher Douglas was given Police Officer of the year for his dedication
to the City of Hamilton. Always looking at where he can make the most
difference to improving the quality of everyone’s lives, and creating a safer
Bermuda.
17. Infection Control
Linda Rothwell is the Infection Control Nurse of the Year. Rothwell works
with the Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) which comprises King Edward VII
Memorial Hospital (KEMH), Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute (MWI) and the
Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre. BHB offers comprehensive diagnostic,
treatment and rehabilitative services in response to Bermuda’s full spectrum
of medical and mental health needs. Rothwell is also a lecturer for the
Bermuda Construction Safety Council.
18. Philanthropy
Patrina O’Connor Paynter is this years winner of Philanthrapist of
the year. The Power Girl is the Managing Director of Youth Mentoring
Programme Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda. Patrina is also an
award winning media personality hosting her own radio show. An
event host and emcee O’Conner was voted in 2016 as the Most
Fascinating person of Bermuda, in 2017 was awarded the Queen’s
Certificate and Badge of Honour for her work in the community. She
was also nominated as one of Bermuda’s most influential mothers by
Bermuda parent magazine. Patrina is also ranked among the top Social
Media Influencers for Bermuda. Featured on the cover of Fast Track
magazine she is also a motivational speaker making a difference in the
lives of the youth in Bermuda. Presented by Councilwoman Lisa
James.
19. Fitness and diet
This Years Fitness Instructor of the Year is Mrs Kelly Ingham. Also
known as Skippers daughter is not only a Tourism Ambassador but
also a level 3 Personal Trainer with World Instructor Training
Schools as well as a level 1 Nutrition Coach with Precision Nutrition.
Kelly is passionate about helping other reach their Health and
fitness goals and is martial arts enthusiast.
21. MECHANICAL
Marnie Gloria is this years Mechanic of the Year. Gloria applies
his trade a E&B trading. Dedicated family man. A Joker / Comedian
can remain focused on the work day ahead and as Auto-Electric
Specialist and is an Avid fisherman in his free time seen here being
presented by Councilwoman Kennette Burgess.

24. TRUCKING
Christy Taylor is the daughter of Chick Holder who together with her
brother form Chick’s Trucking Ltd. Taylor is active at Bermuda Forwarders
and is the first female winner of the Truck Driver of the Year Award.
25. EXCAVATION
Jason Smith is this years Excavator Operator of the Year Award winner. Smith,
having formulating the Excavator Operators Association at the Bermuda College
he and his team are leaders in the built environment in their division. Smith
continues to improve the Bermuda Safety Culture through educational class,
council meetings and on site training. He is seen here presented by Ranae Cann.
Ranae Cann was formerly the owner and CEO of CannTech Systems Consulting.
Now a professional in the reinsurance sector, Ranae works in IT Security,
Governance and Auditing. Ranae is also an avid fitness enthusiast and
nutritionist, having competed in many bodybuilding & fitness competitions,
serving on the Bermuda Bodybuilding and Fitness executive board, as well as
obtaining her license as an International bodybuilding & fitness judge. Ms Cann
also sits on the Executive Board of the Association of National Sports Governing
Bodies, who are committed to serving the Bermuda Sporting communities with
sponsorship guidance, strategic direction, and to advocate on behalf of the
sports bodies of Bermuda to both the Department of Youth and Sport and the
Ministry. Also a certified Precision Nutrition Master expert, she’s helped many
individuals to facilitate successful dietary changes to find success in their goals.
27. CRANES
Carlos Smith is the 2020 Crane Operator of the Year. Smith applies his trade
at Stevedoring Services. The highly trained team of stevedores – holdmen,
deckmen, crane operators, terminal operators, top loader operators,
breakbulk managers and mechanics, work to keep Bermuda docks not only
efficient but also a model for workplace safety, fairness and business
innovation. Carlos started applying his talents at Dandy Town Hornet
becoming the leading goal scorer and is current hall of famer. Presented by
Ministry of Education professor Ms. Florence Sharpe.
28. MASONRY
Iejah Caines is the 2020 Mason of the Year. Iejah Caines applies his
trade at Works and Engineering as a foreman and educator. Seen here
with Allanette Hayward. Hayward is a Warwick secondary school,
Bradford College and Coventry University graduate and is a educator in
technical training and project engineering and is currently a health,
safety and environment consultant. Hayward was also a majorette for
Devonshire recreation club as well as a Dandy Stars football player and
coach.
30. MEET OUR PRESENTERS
PAINTING
Lisa Rego is this year’s Painter of the Year voted for exquisite attention to
detail to pastel colouring and shading. Rego was voted 'Top 50 Emerging
Artist in 2012 and was chosen to be the officially licensed artist of America's
Cup in Bermuda. Her artistry can be viewed at Dockyard clocktower.
31. MEET OUR PRESENTERS
FLOORING
Derek Ming is the 2020 Floorer of the Year along with his sons form
Derek Ming and Sons Carpets. Ming is currently in his 45th year of the
trade covering the needs of clients island wide.
32. HVAC
Ian Morgan is a Cedarbridge and Bermuda College graduate in
HVAC and was part of the first class at the institution. He was also
a member of the speak club as well as a Bermuda College football
player.
34. ELECTRICAL
Nigel Burgess is this year’s Electrician of the Year. After
completing his degree in Electrical Engineering he began
applying his trade at Belco. Later has focused his
attentions to energy saving. Burgess is also a former
Bermuda National Football team goal keeper.
35. SECURITY
Deondre Morris is this year Security System Installer of the
year together with his family form Aderline Security Limited.
In his spare time he is the reigning, defending and current
Muay Thai Champion.
37. PREMIER’S REMARKS
This year, we also recognise our front-line workers, our health care workers, and all of
those essential workers who have been critical to our success in managing COVID-19.
As we know, it has been a challenging year. The pandemic has changed so much about
how we live and work. But we fared well and have a lot to be proud of. Tonight we get
to celebrate our achievements in health and safety; a subject that has been on top of
mind for many months. Let me start by thanking Mr. Brendan Harris and your team for
the tremendous work you do through the Bermuda Construction Safety Council. Your
dedication, commitment and focus to safety and health in our construction industry is
evident through your superb training programmes, education initiatives and support -
you are to be applauded. This council is an excellent resource for our country. It is
essential to recognise both the council and the award winners tonight; you are all
integral to our success.
