Key Concept: Students will begin to write a story about the
adventure of a snowman
Resources: Snowman notebook – picture, action words, story plan.
Student story plan sheet.
Introduction: Show picture of snowman in action. Discuss.
Lesson: Compile a list of words about the actions that a snowman
may make or things to do with snow.
-Review story plan
-Students will workin groups of three to think of a story plan
together. Discuss group workrules.
Closure: Students will write out their story plan. They willshare it
with me

Grade 3 Math Makes Sense U3:2 Relating Addition and Subtraction
Key Concept: Subtraction is related to addition. WE can subtract by
thinking of addition. For most addition facts,there are 2 related
subtraction facts and 1 related addition fact. For most subtraction facts,
there are 2 related addition facts and 1 related subtraction fact.
Resources:MMS student textbook, whiteboards and markers, notes
handouts, wksh U3:2, triangle cards M3.25
Review: Create a bar graph of animals (lions, zebras, giraffes)
Introduction: Read Explore on page 86 (Goldfish question).
Lesson: Read through page 86. Play Show and Share game

#8 No More, That’s Enough
Key Concept: Students will understand that continued exposure to
loud noise may result in hearing loss. Students will have the
opportunity to feel firsthand what it would be like to live with a
hearing loss. This activity also provides a fun, safe environment to
test their hearing with a partner.
Resources: blindfolds, jars or containers with lids, dried rice or beans,
M#20.
Introduction: Describe a pleasant noise that God gave us.
Lesson: In partners, one student is blindfolded, while the other
shakes a jar of beans. The blindfolded person tries to determine the
direction of origin.
-Repeat activity with only one ear completely covered.
-Discuss. (Refer to TM#3 Pg. 27)
-Record a list of ways to take care of your ears on M#20.
Closure: Teacher Debriefing.
Students will recognize that there are ways of measuring the loudness of sounds and those loud
sounds pose a danger to the ear. Students will describe changes in hearing that result from
continued exposure to loud noise and from the natural process of aging.

Key Concept: Students will recognize that good news brings true
happiness.
Resources: Student wkbks,SM29 scanned, Proverbs8:28-29 on
Smart Board.
Introduction: Read Phillip’s First Lesson. Discuss what Phillip should
do to be orderly.
Lesson: Complete “Orderly Words”
Closure: What can youdo to be orderly? What is one place where you
can be orderly?
