3. Proposal 1
The layering aspect of the wax crayons melting on top of each other stemmed from
the collage look of both Klimt Art Nouveau and Picasso’s cubist paintings. The negative
space and shape of the wood refers to Rachel Whiteread’s Holocaust Memorial, and
forms I adopted from Hundertwasser’s building. Colour scheme is inspired by Klimt.
4. Proposal 2
More explicit negative space like my experimentation with Hundertwasser’s forms and
research into Rachel Whiteread’s Holocaust Memorial. Bright colours from both Klimt’s
piece and also John Chamberlain’s piece Colonel Splendid. The shape covered by wax is
3D cubist form inspired by Piranesi and Picasso.
5. To further develop this I would have the base of the
rectangular model the same colour as the background
to create negative space when the wax crayons melt
on top, to create a spatial illusion relating to Piranesi’s
Architectural Fantasies. Also I would make the crayons
melt more on the bottom layer to highlight the
rectangular form even more like cubism.
For this proposal I would change the cubist shapes to
make them less resemble letters, and create a more
interesting 3D cubist shape to make the colourful wax
flow better. As a result more interesting negative
space will be made.
