Bhuvanesh Kumar Srivastava is a Programmer Analyst working at American Express since July 2015. He has a M.Tech in Information Technology from IIIT Bangalore and a B.Tech in ECE from GBTU, ABES Engineering College. At American Express, he works on migrating risk models to Hadoop for improved performance and helped migrate a credit process from Sybase to Hadoop during his 2015 internship. He has experience in machine learning, computer vision, operating systems and data structures from projects involving reducing router congestion, a blind navigation system, real-time process scheduling and dial-a-ride transportation. ACADEMICS:
AMERICAN EXPRESS (From 7th
July 2015 to Present)
Position: Programmer Analyst
Department: RIM (Risk Information Management)
Team : Individual Decision Science
Role: Working on CCAR(Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review) model for US and
International markets (using SAS Technology) and in parallel, trying to migrate the whole
process on to Hadoop (Big Data) from SAS. By doing this, there will be a significant
improvement in the run time performance of the process.
INTERNSHIP: (From January 2015 to June 2015)
COMPANY: American Express
Project Description: My job in the team is to do migration from Sybase to Big Data
platform for a process in AmEx. I have to extract data from Cornerstone (an amex proprietary
warehouse) using cornerstone API’s. These extracted data is loaded to HDFS architecture
(Hadoop) and Hive is used to process this big data. I have automated the whole system with
the help of shell scripting.
Team Name: Credit MIS(Management Information Systems)
Role: Big Data Developer (Intern)
IDEA PRESENTATION:
(Subject: Machine Learning/Convex optimization & Computer Networks, June 5th
, 2014)
Successfully presented a new idea on how to reduce Head of Line Blocking in a router’s
input buffer in order to give better result than the existing protocol. This can successfully
reduce network congestion and packet loss at input buffer of the router in high traffic
conditions, thus increasing the packet service rate. Also implemented the idea in C language
and checked the result which was coming better than existing protocol (in Lab conditions).
IEEE paper will be published soon.
PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN:
Walking Aid for Blind Navigation: (Subject: Computer Vision , July 1st
2014)
Successfully built a blind navigation system for visually impaired people which gives them
information about their surroundings so that they can roam freely in known areas. It has

RTOS(Real Time Operating System) Scheduling: (Sub: Operating System, Dec 5th
2014)
Implemented RMS(Rate Monotonic Scheduling) and EDF(Earliest Deadline First) real time
process scheduling algorithms in C. It is used by almost all embedded systems made in
industries. For given fixed number of processes with known time period of occurrence and
burst time, it finds the best possible scheduling algorithm among RMS & EDF and schedules
the processes.
Dial a Ride: (Subject: Data Structures , November 5th
2014)
Dial-a-ride is a form of public transport system which tries to achieve the
comfort level of a taxi service at low cost. It is characterized by flexible routing and
scheduling of small vehicles operating in shared-ride mode (there can be others who will
share the vehicle with you during the journey) between pick-up and drop-off locations as
requested by passengers. Project has been implemented in Java.
Dimentionality Reduction and hence improving performance of GBM (Gradient
Boosting Machine): (Subject: Machine Learning, Linear Alzebra, September 2015)
This project has been done as a part of a competition held at AmEx named "Modelling Super
Bowl". The aim of the project is to create a Generic Feature Selection Technique (that can be
applied globally), which selects minimum number of variables and hence increase GBM
model performance. I have taken Fraud Data and build a decent model on it, which can
predict if a given account/card member is going to default in future on its credit card bill or
not.
