3. Recent development in railway using IoT
and the AI
Now a days, almost every country are going towards archiving safe, fast, and reliable
rail services.
But due to some reasons such as lack of operational efficiency and reliability, safety
and security issues and the mentality of the people of that country makes such thing
very challenging and difficult to imply.
Due to this the global rail industry facing struggles to meet the increasing demand for
freight and passenger transportation due to lack of optimized use of rail network
and inefficient use of rail assets.
By applying the latest techniques such as IoT(internet of things) and AI(Artificial
intelligence), the system of railways could be optimized, and it will provide better
service and experience to the users.

4. Smart coaches
In India, Railways are the lifeline for the
big mass of population.
Daily more than 23million people use the
railway for transportation in India and
there is a big mass who is earning by selling
things and services in the railways.
The smart coaches are introduced for the
better, comfortable and quality journey
the people.
These smart coaches have many features
which will help in increasing the safety of
the passengers. According to the Ministry
of Railways around 100 smart coaches are
being constructed under the pilot project.

6. Features of Smart Coaches
These coaches are having modern sensors based on AI which will detect the problem
from the compartment to the track and will send all the information with the help of an
integrated computer system.
These coaches works on a special diagnostic system, means that a special vibration
sensor has been installed on the wheels of the train, called Self Power Harvesting
Sensor.
If there will be any defect on the bearings, wheel, and hard spot on the track then they
will be able to detect it.

7. After problem detection, the sensor
will immediately send an alert to the
railway control room.
To prevent the accidents, will also
estimate that the track in which the
train is passing through is right or not. If
there is any scarcity, then the sensor
will give this information to the railway

8. There in an information provider in the coach which will give the information regarding
the next station and its location.
. The coach has also been equipped with the Passenger Information and Coaching
Computing Unit (PICCU) with the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)
network which will mainly monitor the critical area of coach maintenance and
interfaces.
It will tell when will be the station come like we see in the BRTS and show the speed of
the train, too.

10. This thing directly related to the safety purpose.
This will make it easier to keep tracking the
housekeeping, TT, train pantry, suspicious
passengers. The record will remain in CCTV for
30 days, due to which, it will help in solving any
case in urgency.

11. Like metro, these coaches will also have a talk-
back system for emergency condition.
by pressing the button of this talk-back placed
near the passenger toilets of the coach, he or she
can directly talk to the guard in an emergency and
can get help.

12. The lack of water in the coach is a very common
problem In the railway but to avoid this, a smart
water level indicator is also provided outside the
coach.
It will give details such as the water in the coach
is finished or not, How many level of water is
left and if the water is running short in the
coach, then the sensor will send an alert in
advance so that water can be filled in the coach
to the next station.

13. Facilities like AC, disc brake system, fire detection, alarm system are given in this coach.
Also, Smart coaches have been provided with Wi-Fi, hotspot, information system.
Passengers will be able to connect their smartphones with their own hotspot and watch
entertainment programs like movie, songs etc.

14. Smart coaches
These coaches are made at Raebareli Modern Coach Factory.
The first 100 coaches are being made under the pilot scheme.
According to Rajesh Agrawal, general manager of Raebareli Modern Coach Factory, the
cost of making one smart coach is Rs 15 lakh. In the first phase, 100 smart coaches will
be installed on the train and if everything works properly then smart coaches will be
installed in all the trains in large numbers in the Indian Railways.

15. Smart windows
The smart windows provide a high level of
optical quality, privacy, and reliability.
When the rail passenger on board the train turns
on the light, the smart window will become
'opaque' in color which thwarts glare from
The 'opaque' feature of the window will make it
impossible for people outside the train to peep
inside the coach.
As an experiment project, have installed smart
window in New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani train. The
smart windows have been installed in the AC1
coach of the New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani train.

16. Continuous windows
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF),
Chennai is planning to introduce the
continuous window as per the
innovative coach design.
ICF is always focused on serving the
innovative things towards the railway
engineering, as a part of that ICF has
given the high-speed ‘Train-18’ and
‘Train-20’, both capable of hitting
speeds of 176 kmph.
As shown In the above picture,This LACCN (LHB 3Tier AC) Coach, has continuous windows. Such concept has been
applied by providing additional glasses on vertical pillars.
The major purpose of this thing is to give better aesthetic to the coaches.
LHB: Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches are the passenger coaches of Indian Railways that have been developed by
Linke-Hofmann-Busch of Germany. Such coaches are designed for an operating speed up to 160 km/h and could go up
to 200 km/h

17. Smart Card and AVTM
In general words, Railway Smart cards
are like prepaid cards containing
passenger names and passwords.
After having a smart card, one can use
the AVTM which is Automatic ticket
vending machine to get the platform
tickets or second passenger ticket.
This approach is very useful and time
saving for the daily users of railway.
As smart cards are increasingly becoming popular among the people, the Railways has now
launched Go-India Smart Card.
New Delhi is taken as one center under the pilot project which is having tow counter as
UnreservedTicketing System UTS and another for Passenger Reservation System PRS
