The document discusses plans for a student horror film project set in Hyde Park, London. It proposes the idea of a group of students getting lost in the park and struggling to survive after encountering a weird killer. Hyde Park is chosen as the location due to its size, trees, and dark areas that can be used to create tension. The document outlines plans for camera shots, sound effects like screaming and heartbeats, and editing techniques like fades to make an effective horror film trailer.
2. Research On Horror Genre Films
Horror films is a film genre seeking to elicit a negative emotional reaction from
viewers by playing on the audience's primal fears. They often feature scenes
that startle the viewer, and the supernatural are frequent themes.
Horror films / movies often deal with the audience hidden fears, terror of invisible
things and imaginative spirits , the revolution of death and mostly terror of the
unknown. Usually most horror films genre always include things out of the
ordinary like blood, aliens, living dead, super humans, aliens, vampires,
werewolf’s, ghosts, zombies, stalkers and serial killers.
There has been a rise in horror films since 1990s and the horror film made then
was ''scream'' it was popular amongst teenage viewers and lots of other
people started copying it. It earned a lot of money like the first movie which
cost 6 million pounds and the third movie got 101 million pounds.
Horror movies have disturbing images and also have scary soundtracks ans the
locations are usually dark, creepy, and play with the fears of the audience so
horror films are usually high age certificated to show its for teenagers and
adults who enjoy this genre.
3. Two plot ideas
Our first idea was to make a film about school terrors and extra ordinary things
happening so we were going to do it in college, but we then realised it was a
bad location choice as the college lights need to be kept on at all times and
because we are making our movie like horror films we need it to be dark and
scary so it looks real and dramatic that it creeps out the audience. Other than
that there are always student out and about in college so it would be quite
noisy and annoying to work in college.
Our second idea is about a weird freaky killer that stays in a big park near the
college and one day a group of young students seeing as they were running
late home and it was getting late they decided to go trough the park but events
change as the girls cross path with the weirdo lose there way and end up
being lost in the park, this then become a struggle for survival. Based on our
idea we have decided to use Hyde park as our location as it very big lots of
bushes and trees its hidden and certain areas are always dark. Its also quiet
peaceful and open to nature.
4. Location
We are thinking of setting our movie at Hyde park as our location because it the
closest thing to a scary woods and its closer to nature as the trees are real
and big, also its peaceful and can allow us create lots of sound effects to and
also cos there are some dark places around and we need lots of low key
lightening to make our movie very scary and real we choose to do it outside
because we feel its easier to achieve our goal of making the audience scared
and freaked out.
Also some viewers prefer outdoors scary films than indoors cos its usually more
unpredictable what happens outside compared to when its done inside.
5. Sound track
We looking to add lots of different sound effect in our trailer like :
Running
Screaming
Cutting noises
Panting
Heart beats
Foot steps
we also looking to add ambient sounds like wolfs howling, owls hooting, trees
moving with the wind e.t.c this will make it more intimidating as its a horror
movie trailer.
Just like most horror films use really good sound tracks we are looking to achieve
that level of perfection that those awesome horror films have achieved.
6. Typical directions
In our trailer we are going to use lots of angles and shot types for
cinematography. The shot that we might use more often should be close ups
are we will be aiming to get the facial expressions and feelings of the
characters to put more fear in the viewers .
We will also be looking at wide shots as we would need to show the surrounding
and other characters or background actions.
Sound – the sound we will use for our movie trailer need to be scary unusual and
intimidating so we have as a result use a 15 certificate for our film and a 12A
in our trailer we would use sounds like screaming, slashing, running and
heartbeats.
Editing – in our trailer we might be using fades to show different parts of the
movie, we can also use a wipes and dissolve to add more effect to the trailer
and make it seem more interesting
Mise-en-scene -the characters actors and actress will be dressed normal and
casual except the weirdo and we are going to be needing a lot of props in our
trailer like blood, knives, poles and woods we need this to make it real and
entertain the audience.
7. What is needed to achieve
The things we need to achieve our goal of a good horror trailer is;
Good filming like using a tripod to make it more stabled and better
A good stable sound track
Good mise-en-scene like appropriate clothing
Good editing
Good facial expressions
Appropriate location
And focusing on making g our idea a success.
