As the manager of HP’s Indigo Division’s Writing Head Electronics and Software team,
I had the pleasure to work with Benny Kimelman during the last 15 years.
Benny joined the team as a digital designer, both board and logic design. As an
individual contributor, he successfully designed high quality designs that he
subsequently transferred from design to production.
After a few productive years in this position, during which Benny both clearly proved
his capabilities and acquired wider and deeper knowledgeof the Writing Head, I
requested Benny to lead the electronics engineers in the team. Benny successfully led
this team to design and deliver to production three successive generations of Writing
Head Electronics systems for the HP-Indigo Digital Presses, each generation adding
significantly additional functionality and performanceand also meeting the cost
goals. The solutions included complex control and compensation of the lasers,
dynamic mirror, and polygon of the Writing Head electro-optics via electronics
boards, very high speed digital control implemented in VHDL, and real time firmware.
Benny has a good grasp of both the over-all system and an ability to dive into the
details of the design, thus successfully leading the engineers. He is very organized,
thorough, and communicates clearly. Furthermore, Benny creates within the team a
friendly, pleasant working environment and atmosphere.
In summary, I can sincerely and highly recommend Benny for a range of positions,
especially in electronics systems, from team leader to system engineer to expert
electronics designer.
