These women are either in college or right out of college and that can afford fashionable couch pillows. This is the target market because our pillows are colorful, that appeal to the younger age range. Also they are a little more expensive than a normal couch pillow, so that’s why these women need to be somewhat wealthy. This fits nicely with Target Corporations current market. Their home products are trendy, stylish, and usually purchased by our customer. <br />Sources of Design <br />As the product development team for Target Corporation we have seen the need to redesign our classic pillow product. We plan to focus on making our pillows more sustainable for Fall 2011 without raising the cost to our consumer or sacrificing quality. Since home goods are something that is purchased by many target customers, and used in virtually every home, a more sustainable option is a must. <br />To make this pillow more sustainable we would like to use felt as the main outer shell material for the pillow. Felt is non-woven and is made from natural wool. It is also very strong, so it is a perfect material for a pillow that is used everyday by our consumer. This <br />4343400-1371600<br />is much more sustainable then the current cotton used because no pesticides are used in the production of felt. Target would also like to switch to a recycled poly fill, rather then <br />using down. This filling will be much more animal friendly as no feathers are used. Other benefits to recycled polyfill are that it is also hypo allergenic and just as full and fluffy as down. Lastly the washing instructions will be slightly different, but also more sustainable. By using a cold, hand wash cycle on the washing machine our new sustainable felt pillow will get clean with the use of less water and resources. <br />In the end our felt pillows can also be customized to fit our different target markets. Colors and patterns can be easily altered from season to season. We chose to focus on a brown and black zebra print for our current design.
