Published Disease Control & Prevention Methodologies
”Redirecting Elimination Efforts in Response
to the Changing Epidemiology of Syphilis”
This “cutting–edge” Disease Control &
Prevention Initiative expanded the window
of opportunity for “primary prevention” of
Gay and Transgender Homosexual Men
diagnosed and /or exposed to Infectious
Syphilis (Primary/Secondary) and HIV, while
decreasing reporting lag time, treatment
time and partner notification initiation
procedures, during a “SYPHILIS OUTBREAK”
in Metro Washington DC. Upon the
facilitation of this “ACTIVE” Surveillance
Program, clients were notified, informed
and treated for their disease exposure
within hours - days vs. weeks - months, as
it was the case prior to the its
implementation. The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) currently
references this program as the “source for
credible disease intervention/ prevention”
for use by STD Control Programs Nationally.
