2. TRAIN OPERATION AND MANAGEMENT
There are two principal technical requirements for co-production of passenger
and freight traffic:
The vehicles must be able to run at the same speed
The vehicles must be able to be coupled, preferably automatically
Crew Size - A proposed federal rule would require at least two crew members for
most train operations.
Performance-based Regulations - to allow new technologies that enhance
safety, the government should specify performance objectives rather than
mandate specific manners of compliance that railroads must adopt.
3. Signaling System
The trains consist of modified conventional locomotives and covered
bogie wagons with sliding walls.
Locomotives are equipped with:
speed limiters
special signaling equipment
Block signaling
4. ATP/ATC SYSTEMS
Enhance our existing
national Automatic Train
Protection network
providing a higher level of
safety (SIL4) and cost
efficiency for
interoperability between
different projects and
countries. As an add-on on
conventional lines, iCAB 1
will exploit the already
present signalling.
5. Level Crossing Obstacle Detection
System
The Level Crossing Obstacle Detection System performs
the automatic detection of obstacles at level crossings
preventing accidents to incoming trains.
ADVANTAGES AND BENEFITS
• Ease of installation and adaptation to the area morphology
• Number of sensing units per installation reduced to the
minimum compared to other technological solutions, e.g.
micro-wave radar monitoring systems
• Simple configuration for the specific geometry of level
crossing
• Reliability of performance in harsh weather conditions such as
rain, snow and fog
• Composite fail-safe architecture based upon SIL4 principles
6. Coded Current Automatic Block - BACC
System measures the magnetic field
produced by the coded rail currents
and analyzes their signal and
modulation looking for anomalies of
both current source and detectors.
BACC is a train protection system
used in Italy on railway lines using
3kV DC electrification (mainline and
regional lines). The term is an
abbreviation of Blocco Automatico a
Correnti Codificate (Coded Current
Automatic Block).
7. Wireless Networks
System checks RFcoverage, acquires
functional parameters for commercial
wireless technology, evaluates service
quality index.
The system is made up of the following
components:
SYNC BOARD, sending synchronization signal
to a scanner receiver
Train Antennas
Software module with PESQ algorithm,
evaluating the quality of voice signal
Voice response module
Digital acquisition board, necessary to
manage the synchronization pulses
Scanner RF receivers
8. Safety measures
Specific advances that can help avoid future railway tragedies
include:
Onboard detection systems, including wheel impact load detectors and
hot bearing detectors, that alert engineers of faulty components
Ultrasonic and geometric track inspection systems that gather data with
lasers to help more accurately schedule and identify needed repairs
Sensors at railway crossings to detect when someone enters, by foot or
by car, an area a train will cross
Drones to conduct aerial inspections without the need to conduct on-
track monitoring
Workplace practices that emphasize passenger safety, including
improved screening of job candidates, better training and enhanced
reporting of accidents
9. Human resource
HR managers can play a pivotal role in proactively
managing workplace stress, as they:
are likely to see first-hand the problems which cause stress in
their teams;
influence job design and work allocation;
are often the first point of contact for an individual feeling
stressed; and
provide a vital communication link between senior managers and
their team.
10. Information Management
For the new High-Speed Freight Railway we can
implement followings:
One European IT production system for all High Speed Freight
Railway companies;
Electronic train order management;
Standardized invoicing;
Transparency of rail freight operations;
Standardized processes for all High Speed Freight Railway
companies
11. What are the benefits from Information
Management systems?
Improved quality of transportation documentation
Automated distribution of transportation documentation
No missed billing due to poor order capture
Standardised customer experience
Automated calculation of freight rates for billing
Automated triggering of billing leading to reduction in missed billings
More efficient handling of supplier invoices
Reduction of manual work
