2. This is a picture of a hyperbola. It is a hyperbola because
the shape of a hyperbola is a square. The lines that are
crossing are called the asymptotes. This picture was taken at
Lakewood Transit Station. I think this was the perfect
picture to describe the shape of a hyperbola.
3. This is a picture of a classroom clock. If you haven’t
guessed its shape, it is a circle. This picture was actually
taken in Ms. Costen’s classroom. There are many things
that have the shape of the circle. Clocks, soap, and
speakers just to name a few.
4. This is a picture of a parabola. The shape of a parabola
is u-shaped. It can go up and down or left and right.
This parabola is going down which means the x was
squared and the p was negative. This picture was
taking of one my classmates.
5. This is a picture of an ellipse. The shape of an ellipse
is an oval. This picture was taken on a billboard on
the highway. People usually get ellipse and hyperbolas
confused because they almost have the same
equation. The ellipse has a + sign and the hyperbola
has a – sign.
