History:
The Archaeological mound Sangulwala at Chak No.742/G.B., Tehsil Kamalia District Toba Tek Singh is situated at a
distance of about 12 km southwest of Kamalia city on the main Chicha Watni – Kamalia road near chak No.734/G.B.
bus stop. Which measures 400 meter long to east west and 300 meter wide to north south (20 Acres). The
approximately height of the site from surroundings level is about 12 meter. Most of area has been merged into the
cultivated field. The considerable area of the archaeological site has cultural deposits accumulated over several
centuries of settlements. The entire mound is littered with potsherds having typical similarity with the Tulamba pottery
from 3rd century B.C. to 18th century A.D. During the visit some structural remains have been exposed by the
encroachers of site, the northeast part of the site clearly indicates the walled settlement of sun-dried bricks with bastion
of burnt bricks.

The Tomb of Dai Anga is on GT Road inside Gubabi Bagh, Baghbanpura Lahore . She was wet Nurse of Emperor Shah
Jahan. Tomb was built in 1655 AD by a noble. Murad Khan Bikanar.
Prince Parwez, second son of Jahangir he died in 1626 AD.
Jani Khan, titled Intizam-ud-Daula, son of Nawab Qamar-ud-Din Khan, minister of Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah
died in 1748. Moin-ul-Mulk then became the governor of Punjab and appointed Jani Khan as commander of the army..
These small Mughal monuments of Lahore are in bad state of conservation and need urgent conservation.

History: Derawar Fort is the largest and the most impressive architecturally sustained fortress of Cholistan. Hindu Rajput,
Rai Jajja Bhatti of Jaisalmar was the one who originally built a Fort on this site. The Fort remained under the control of a
royal family of Jaisalmar until 1733A.D when Nawab of Bahawalpur captured this Fort. It remained as deserts abode till
1970 and survived intact due to constant occupation by Royal family. Keeping in view it's historical and architectural
significance, it was declared protected under Antiquities Act 1975 and also inscribed on Tentative World heritage list of
UNESCO.
There are many buildings inside the fort in miserable condition. Civil building at the left side of courtyard has impressive
has impressive architecture and is selected for conservation/restoration.

Dharmarajika, the earliest and the largest Buddhist religious complex at Taxila. It was built to
enshrine the holy relics of the Buddha by the famous Mauryan King Asoka the Great who was
also known as Dharmaraja for his services to Buddhism and thus it named “Dharmarajika”
Dharmarajika Stupa, Taxila, is frequently visited by the local and international tourists.
However, no parking area is available with the site due to which the visitors are supposed to
park their vehicles on the road side which is very dangerous. Therefore, a proper parking area
alongwith proper approach is extremely required to facilitate the visitors.

Background:
• Cultural wealth of a country is its most valuable treasure and its protection and
preservation is the duty of whole mankind.
• Punjab is one of the richest Provinces in terms of archaeological and historical heritage in
Pakistan.
• The history of this Province started from the Paleolithic period in Rawalpindi district about
two millions year back and continued to the colonial period
• Unfortunately due to lack of awareness of the heritage treasure the due sense of care,
preservation and promotion could not be created in the people. As a result archeological
sites and monument are not being preserved as properly
• Moreover these cultural assets have not been promoted for awareness in the masses for
enhancement of tourism in the country.

• Sheikhupura Fort was built by the Emperor Jahangir in 1607 A.D as part of a recreational park
and royal hunting resort. It was also used as a halting stage for imperial visits to Kashmir or
Kabul.
• The Fort is an important archaeological/historic site that showcases the transition from the
Mughul era to the Sikh era in this region.
• Fort was transferred to Punjab Government after 18th constitutional amendment in severely
damaged condition.
• Fort structure particularly inside fort are in precarious condition. Wide cracks have appeared in
the buildings, some of the roofs collapsed. Forts have basements which not yet been fully
explored their present condition. Comprehensive studies are required to determine cases of
decay and development of proposal for conservation/restoration of Fort.
• This proposal to carry out documentation and certain studies and development of conservation
plan of existing structures which are in critically dilapidated condition

Backgroud
• The Directorate general of Archaeology, Punjab was 1987
• The main function of the Directorate General of Archaeology, Punjab is to preserve,
conserve, restore and develop the protected historical monuments of the province of
Punjab with the aim to give them a new lease of life for the coming generation.
• After the 18th Amendment in the Constitution of Pakistan, the Federal Department of
Archaeology& Museums was devolved and monuments were transferred to the
Directorate General of Archeology which increased its responsibilities
• Presently 416 monuments/ site enlisted as protected under Antiquity Act 1975 and
Special Premises Preservation Ordinance 1985, which come under regulatory
jurisdiction of Directorate General of Archaeology

136. • Survey, Research, Documentation& Excavation of entire archaeological heritage,
and establishment of new site museums at important cities of the Punjab are also
part of major functions DGA
• Main offices of the Director General of Archaeology are in Lahore, Bahawalpur,
Jhelum, Multan, Harappa and Taxila only while its jurisdiction for protection and
preservation of archaeological heritage spread over entire Punjab
• Due to inadequate resources it is observed this directorate unable to discharge its
responsibilities effectively and efficiently
• There is dire need to improve the Capacity of the Directorate General of
Archeology for its different components for better service delivery

Background
The old town of Amb is situated in the Salt Range 5 miles south of Sukesar Peak. The
Dhodha Nala flows between Amb and Sakesar and almost isolates the flat topped hill
on which stands the old fort of Amb with its square towers and massive walls. The area
of the temple covers about 10 acres of strewed stone. There are three temples in the fort
one large and two small build of blocks of ‘Kanjor Stone’ which date back to 9th – 10th
century A.D. These were originally plastered. The large temple stands on a platform 90
feet long, 62 feet broad and 6 feet high. The temple has the ground story 15 feet square,
the middle one 12 feet and the upper nearly 10 feet. The total height of the temple
including the plinth is about 60 feet. The style of ornamentation is Kashmiri

The Punjab Heritage Fund was created under Section-5 of the Punjab Heritage Foundation Act, 2005.
Initially a PLS Account was opened in the Bank of the Punjab.
Heritage Fund is to be utilized for the
“improvement, proper maintenance, preservation, conservation, rehabilitation, promotion of research
work, publication of periodicals, monographs, pamphlets, newspapers, books and posters of Punjab
Heritage”
All the earning of Directorate General of Archaeology from various historical monuments (Booking,
Café, Parking contract, and shooting fees etc.) are being deposited in the Heritage Foundation Account.
