The integrated science instrument model
House all of web’s cameras and science instrument
NEAR INFRARADE CAMERA or NIRCAM provided by
the university Arizona
NEAR INFARADE spectrograph or NIRSSPEC provided
by ESA with components provided by NASA/GSFC
4. OTE
Optical telescope element
There is two types of mirror
Primary mirror
Secondary mirror
PRIMARY MIRROR: 18 hexagonal segments made of the
metal beryllium and coated with gold to captured faint
infrared light
SECONDARY MIRROR: reflected gathered light from
the primary memory into the science instruments
5. SPACECRAFT BUS
Contain most of the spacecraft steering and control
machinery including the computer and the reaction
wheel
Spacecraft bus provides the support functions for the
operation of the observatory the bus houses the six
major subsystem needed to operate the spacecraft the
electrical power subsystem the attitude control system
the communication subsystem the command and data
handling subsystem the propulsion subsystem and the
thermal control subsystem
6. EARTH POINTING ANTENA
Send science data back to earth and receives
commands from NASA deep space network
MULTILAYER SUNSHEILD: five layer shield the
observatory from the light and heat of the sun
and earth
