Proverbs and sayings have been
popular almost with all
nationalities in flu world.
People use them in their
everyday speech. Writers use
them in their works. Almost
every culture has a great variety
of proverbs which have become
a part in its popular language.
Nothing speaks about culture
as clearly as its language and
the part of language that best
characterizes a society’s values,
beliefs, traditions is its
proverbs and sayings. The
specific features of every
country proverbs and sayings
have general sides. First of all,
they describe the economic,
social, politic and human life of
the people.

As we know proverbs and sayings are
the part of folklore which is short,
but deep in the meaning. The
semantic sphere of proverbs is
large and cannot limit them. The
fact is that proverbs and sayings
are similar in meaning though there
are great differences and forms
between the Armenian and English
language. It’s not a secret that
proverbs and sayings describe the
every branch of human’s life, for
instance, friendship, motherland,
time, knowledge, beauty, health,
work and others.
Many proverbs and sayings were used in fables,
literature, articles, which make the written
speech more imaginable and figurative.
In linguistic points of view,
proverbs and sayings are
divided into three parts:
1. Proverbs and sayings which
consist of two components:
give importance-արժեք տալ
2. Proverbs and sayings which
consist of three components:
արյան հոտ գալ-a sense of
danger
3. Proverbs and sayings which
consist of three or more
components: ջրի երկու կաթիլի
պես նման-as like as two drops
of water
There are lots of proverbs
and sayings in which are
used interesting
contrasts: e. g. top and
down, long and short,
dog and cat, one and
forty, cat and mouse,
good and bad, hungry
and satisfied, man and
woman, daughter and
bride, money and brain
A good husband makes a good wife
Լավ ամուսնը լավ կին ունի
Once bitten, twice shy
Մեկ անգամ խաբվածը երկրորդ անգամ զգույշ
կլինի
Money spent on the brain is never spent in vain.
Տաշած քարը գետնին չի մնա
The thieve never becomes
a washerman
Գողը երբեք լվացարար չի
դառնա
Birds fly with their wings people with their friends
Հավքը թռչում է իր թևով, մարդը՝ իր բարեկամով
Տերովին տերն է տարել,անտերին՝ գելը
A fish rots from the head down
Ձուկը գլխից է հոտում
A new broom sweeps clean
Թազա ավելը լավ կավլե
Նոր ղեկավարը լավ է աշխատում
Early to bed and early to rise makes and man
healthy, wealthy and wise
Շուտ պառկելն ու շուտ վեր կենալը երկարացնում
են կյանքը, մեկ շուտ ամուսնացողը չի
փոշմանում,մեկ էլ քնից շուտ վեր կացողը
Birds of a feather flock together
Ամեն հավք իր երամի հետ կամ այծը այծին ավելի
լավ է քան մի հոտ ոչխար
Take the bull by the horns
Եզան եղջյուրից բռնել
Things came to fist
Բանը բռունցքի հասավ
Երջանիկ աստղի տակ ծնվել
Be born under a lucky star
Blood is Thicker than Water
Արյունը ջուր չի դառնա
I am a boss and you are a boss, who will take
