2. A drug is any substance which, when taken into the
body, alters the body’s function either physically and
or psychologically. Drugs maybe legal (e.g. alcohol,
caffeine and tobacco) or illegal (e.g. cannabis,
ecstacy, cocaine and heroin).
Psychoactive drugs affect the central nervous
system and alter a person’s mood, thinking and
behavior. Psychoactive drugs may be divided into
four categories: DEPRESSANT, STIMULANT,
HALLUCINOGEN and INHALANT.

Gateway drugs such as cigarettes
and alcohol are legal drugs that a non-
drug user might try, which can lead
him/her to more dangerous drugs
such as marijuana and shabu.
7. Depressant Drugs
Depressant drugs slow down a
person’s central nervous system
(CNS). The Central Nervous
System includes the brain, spinal
cord and nerves.
9. Stimulant Drugs
Stimulant drugs speed up a person’s
Central Nervous System. Stimulant drugs
have the opposite effect of depressant.
Stimulants make a person’s energy high.
Stimulants includes amphetamines which
includes shabu, caffeine, nicotine and
cocaine.
11. Hallucinogen are drugs which distort reality
and facts. It affect all senses and makes
user see, hear and feel things that don’t exist
in the time being. The name hallucinogen
came from the word hallucination which is to
perceive illusion. Hallucinogen includes
Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) obtained
from psilocybin mushroom.

13. Inhalants includes chemical found in household products as
aerosol spray, cleaning fluid, glue, paint, paint thinner, nail
polish remover, lighter fuel. They are snipped or “huffed”
(act of inhaling vapor). Inhalant affect the brain. When
substances or fumes are inhaled through the nose or mouth,
they can cause permanent physical and mental damage.
They starve the body of oxygen and force the heart to beat
irregularly and more rapidly. People who use inhalant can
lose their sense of smell, suffer nausea and nose bleed and
may develop liver, lungs and kidney problem.

15. Narcotics
Narcotics drugs which relieve pain and
induced sleepiness. In medicine, these drugs
are administered in moderation to patient with
mental disorder and those in severe pain like
cancer. Narcotic drugs includes codeine,
heroin and Morphine. These drug are
dangerous if taken in high dosage.
