What is socially acceptable in Denmark that would be horrifying in the U.S.?
Denmark is quite unique.SEX. Everywhere. Sex education is done early and the right to have
sex is taken seriously. A friend told me once, if my dad ever walked in on me having sex with
a girl I would yell at him to get out. We were 15. Also, X-rated content would be aired on
national TV after midnight. Wasn’t an issue.Nudity. I would sleep over at friends and realize
their moms were very comfortable being topless. Sun bathing or not, it just wasn’t
inappropriate showing skin. Body painting was common in the summer. That’s topless
women with only paint covering the sensitive parts. Points. Tips. Whatever.Social disparity.
It’s just one big middle class. Where you went to school pretty much determined what sort
of people you met but it wasn’t uncommon for a son of a doctor or a lawyer to be content
with being a supermarket clerk. The lines are clearly blurred between the rich and the poor
and much fewer people define themselves through their wealth.Social involvement. Danes
are more involved with politics at an early age. They have stronger views and a sense of
what they believe is right or wrong at a much earlier age. This usually results in open
discussions on sensitive topics at dinner tables and at school. Political correctness is less
important as people are more inclined to express their beliefs.

Prostitution for the German Armed Forces
The Wehrmacht was aware from the start of the war that soldiers would be tempted by the
fun, booze and women they could find in the town closest to their parking spot.
Alcohol and gambling weren't much of a problem, but relationships with women deserved
more caution.
Since the Polish campaign, the local prostitutes carried a series of venereal diseases that
caused important contagions among the soldiers.
In France, for example, during the entire period of occupation, prostitutes incapacitated
more soldiers than the French Army during the 1940 campaign.
Military brothel in France in 1940. These always contained a huge party of music, dancing,
shows and alcohol
It is estimated that more than 100,000 women worked for the Nazis in brothels and
cabarets in collaborationist France.
Wehrmachtsbordellen
Once the war actions began, the Wehrmacht had regulations for the control of prostitution
and to achieve the goals pursued, the High Command ordered the establishment of two
types of controlled brothels ("Wehrmachtsbordellen").
The "Garrison Brothels", for the big cities, where the number of troops concentrated or in
transit was greater and the "Field Brothels", which traveled behind the lines to serve the
soldiers of the front, while they were on rest. For a few days.
These prostitute units were managed by the Feldgendarmerie and the Medical Units.
The women, called "Offizierdecke" (bed officers) in military jargon, belonged to several
categories.
Some were professional prostitutes recruited from Germany and the occupied countries.
Another category corresponded to "easy" women, many of them convicted of civil or
political crimes who preferred that service to forced labor in labor camps.
The others were prisoners of war, most from the occupied Soviet republics, willing to do the
work.
Although recruitment was voluntary, there have been reports of "forced labor" of women
from the mob, but only in eastern towns.
All these categories of women provided sexual services exclusively for the troops.
The officers had separate services especially in garrison situations, with particular rules to
maintain the category of "Hotel" of establishments that were really exclusive brothels.
In any case, the responsibility for the administration of the brothels rested with the
"Ortskommanturen" (Area Commander) who was concerned with the maintenance of a
"Sanierstube" (sanitary station) existing in each brothel.
Both in the Garrison Brothels and in the Country Brothels the procedure was the same.
First the soldier went to the "Sanitatssoldat" to certify her state of hygiene and health and
receive a Pass.
PASS
A. Entry authorization for the Wehrmachtsbordellen.
Date: _________________________
Control Book No.: ______________
Have sex only with a condom!
Do prophylactic treatment immediately after sexual intercourse.
B. In the Wehrmachtsbordellen.
Signature of the Offizierdecke: _____________________
: ___________________
C. Certificate of subsequent prophylactic treatment.
Identification plate number and unit: ____________
Field Post Number: ______________________
The soldier has received prophylactic treatment:
at ________hours, at Sanierstube No.: ___________
Certified by:
Rank ____________ Name: _____________________
This document must be kept for three months and must be presented in case of illness.
The soldier received the Pass with the stamped and dated certification. On the Pass was
the name and number of the appropriate brothel for the soldier and a space for the
prostitute to put her signature and number. The soldier received a condom and a small
green or gray can of aerosol disinfectant (spray).
The Field Police checked the Pass and made him wait in the corresponding line. As many
complained, the wait in line was usually longer than the time the soldier spent with the
woman.
The woman had to open her legs and the "client" emptied the disinfectant on her genitals.
Only then did the woman sign the Pass and put her number. After the service the soldier
returned the Pass and the empty can. If he didn't, he received two weeks of extra work and
guard duty as punishment.
The installation manuals of the sanitary stations with the description of the procedure were
entitled "Heeresverordnungsblatt 1943, Richtlinien für die Einrichtung von Sanierstellen und
Durchführung der Sanierung" and "HDv 59. Merkblattes über Sanierungen".
Note in the "Pass" model that the name of the soldier does not appear anywhere as only the
identification number and unit of his identification plate were written.
This procedure gave good results judging by the relatively low number of venereal diseases
produced in military brothels, but if it did occur, it was easy to locate the sick woman and
possibly infected soldiers for their corresponding medical treatment.
Between the years 1939 and 1943, due to venereal contagion of all kinds, there were about
250,000 cases of diseases reported in the Heeres (Land Army).
The state of health of the prostitutes was the responsibility of the medical officer of the
area who had to order the medical examination of the women twice a week.
There was an upsurge of venereal disease in 1942 in France, Poland, and Germany. The
Russian population was mostly the source of contagion. The diseases were spread by being
carried by the Hiwis due to the lack of control over their sexual activities and the women
they frequented either for sentimental relationships or for commercial sex.

On the Eastern Front, the abuses were serious
Wehrmachtsbordellen in France
In France, after the Armistice, the need to monitor and regulate these brothels had as its
primary objective to prevent German troops from establishing personal relationships with
French women, also to exercise health control to prevent the spread of venereal diseases,
but above all all to prevent the German military from falling victim to espionage and
terrorism. In this way, the safety of the soldiers themselves was ensured, avoiding the
potential threat that clandestine appointments entail.
On the other hand, in accordance with the doctrine of the National Socialist Party, the
commanders of the OKW (High Command of the Armed Forces) ensured that German
soldiers had relationships with women within the limits that the requirements of the criteria
of race and politics imposed and above all, to prevent a very personal relationship with
French women from causing political influence on the soldiers with the consequent danger
to the morale of the troops. Consequently, the recruitment of German women to render their
services in France was desirable.
Clandestine prostitution in France
In the second half of July 1940, the organization of brothels began in France.
They were part of the work teams, the OKW, the police, the Gestapo and the commanders of
the health bodies of the armed forces. They arranged a plan to recruit prostitutes in the
brothels. They were first classified according to "racial affiliation" and then subjected to
health and police checks, a measure that was extended to brothel employees.
The working conditions, prices and services they would provide were also established. They
printed a catalog with instructions for the proper functioning of sexual activity.
Simultaneously, the OKH (Army Command) administration issued directives with the
purpose of persecuting and capturing women suspected of engaging in clandestine
prostitution.
Clandestine prostitution was relentlessly persecuted, not only to avoid fraternization and the
proliferation of diseases, but also to prevent the formation of espionage networks that,
under the cover of that cover, had an ideal work environment to carry out these activities.
However, some soldiers violated the regulations by going to civilian brothels where the
women were somewhat more attractive and professional, but if the soldier fell ill he was
cured and then sent to a Punishment Battalion on the Eastern Front for a period of two
weeks to three months.
The case of the officers was special in the Gallic country. For disciplinary reasons, officers
were forbidden to go to the brothels intended for the troops.
In contrast, "hotels" were established where officers could spend a few hours in a suitable
environment and with the "quality of service" corresponding to their rank.
The system of brothels and hotels worked from the day of capitulation, until the liberation of
France in 1944.
In all the main cities there were brothels and clandestine prostitutes were persecuted in the
streets, bars, hotels and restaurants.
There were some abuses against lower-class women who worked as cooks, bathroom
cleaners, etc., who were sometimes accused of prostitution when they were caught in
intimate relationships with German soldiers.
Public social gatherings were not a cause for police repression and as time passed,
friendship or sentimental relationships between German soldiers and French women
ceased to be considered fraternization.
However, on the French side, these relations were the cause of brutal revenge, at the end of
the war, when all those women who maintained some type of more or less stable
relationship with German soldiers were accused of collaborating.
At the end of 1941, in District A of France, which comprised a third of the German-occupied
area, there were 143 army brothels employing 1,166 women.
In the port of La Rochelle, 250 French women worked in brothels reserved for the German
troops.
