Environmental Manager: oversaw all environmental permits for the plant, dealt with all regulators,
wrote storm-water permit, process water permit and oversaw implementation of Title V air
operating permit. File monthly, quarterly, semiannual, annual, and misc. reports with DOE,
EPA, ORCAA, and the City of Hoquiam. Conduct pollution prevention training.
Safety Manager: oversaw safety program for the plant including; conducting plant-wide training,
risk assessments, safety audits, conduct meetings, investigations, etc.
Lab Manager: supervise Lab Techs, Chemists, oversee all QC testing, environmental testing,
product development testing. Coach/facilitator in Rapid Lean (six sigma). Involved in all aspects
of new product development and improvement, developed several trade secret processes,
and one provisional patent.

Conducted chemical analytical testing and procedures in support of Pulp Mill processes. Examples
include Tappi tests in the following: Pulp viscosity tests, Pulp Brightness tests, R-10’s, R18’s, Ca,
Ph titrations, etc. Chemical standardization for all labs, equipment calibrations standard and ISO,
scheduling call-ins, ordering lab supplies, etc. Also, served as Safety Steward.
Lab Technician III, Environmental Operator– operated waste water treatment facility, water
filtration plant, ash clarifier system, aeration pond system, sanitary and sour sewer system, sampled
effluent and tested for solids, TSS, Ph, DO’s, and collected BOD samples from various location
throughout the mill. Met with the public concerning various odor complaints received.

Conducted all Air Testing for the mill site, including: Method 5 particulate (3 different stacks)
Method 308 methanol (O2 reactor), cl/clo2 testing (CD Generator) Method 6 annual and quarterly
RATA’s for H2S, and So2 (able to use both instrumentation method and wet chemistry method),
Method 9 (consistently recertified over 9 years), conducted all air surveys and gas analysis testing
throughout the mill. Composed reports for all testing completed, including the monthly State Air
Report to D.O.E. Conducted various other special projects like Low-level Beta testing, system mass
2. flow balances, and special chemical makeup. Developed new procedures and testing for other
operators/technicians to conduct regularly. This was an independent position with minimal
supervision, demanding self motivation it was also the top union position in the Technical Dept.
