News and Views Article Presentation Guidelines

In class presentations will during the last 2 weeks of class. Dates to be confirmed

Everybody will give a 5 to 7 minute presentation on the topic of their News and Views articles
with a couple of minutes following for questions. Here are some ground rules.

   • The presentation should follow the format of your News & Views article
o What is the news (the main point in the paper)?
o A brief background and explanation that your classmates can understand
o Why is the news important?
o What are the implications and directions of future research?

   • You only have 7 minutes including time for questions and a minute for change over so
please do not try to cover too much material and practice the timing ahead of time.

   • In past years there were a couple of great presentations that just involved using the board
but I anticipate that most of you will use PowerPoint. You can
o E-mail me your presentation the night before class and I will make it accessible
               on the class web site
o Bring a memory stick to class (there is a small risk of your presentation being
affected by Mac/PC conversion issues that we will not have time to fix)
o Use your own computer in which case you are responsible for testing the
connection to the projector ahead of time.

As a courtesy to your classmates, I expect everyone to attend on all the presentation days that
you are scheduled to be in class. If you have a good reason for missing a presentation day,
please let me know.
