SECRETS TO A STRONG CV
As a guide, ensure your resume is only
3-4 pages long
One of the most important tips to a strong CV is to keep
it short, sharp and relevant. Use bullet points wherever
applicable, and try to use 1.5 line spacing. Clean formatting
makes it easier to digest the information in your CV.
Start strong to keep them asking for more
Ensure your summary and functional information
(qualifications) at the start of your resume scream out that
you are a good fit for the role.
The first page of your resume should be ‘your brand on
a page’. This page should contain your career summary,
contact details, relevant competencies, certifications and
qualifications. If you are applying for a highly technical
position, ensure that your relevant qualifications and
competencies are clearly brought forward.
Show them what you’ve got!
Clearly advertise relevant work experience in your career.
Be surgical in listing down your experience that you believe
would be relevant and critical to promote as part of your
brand for the current vacancy.
Be specific and concise with your roles and responsibilities
at your previous position/s, e.g. “Completely responsible for
leading and managing a team of 7 nurses in the emergency
department”

Don’t be scared to show off!
List all your acquired skills and achievements in your
previous roles and be sure to utilise keywords to identify that
you have the knowledge and know-how to get the job done.
Advertise the key skills you acquired from your previous
roles that will assist you in your current application.
These achievements do not necessarily need to be awards
or major accomplishments; these can be important, crucial
changes you have implemented in your role, e.g. suggested
a strategy that was implemented to reduce patient
discharging by 5 hours.
Try to quantify the achievements and benefits realised by
your actions.
Please reread your CV, checking your grammar
and spelling.
Having incorrect grammar and spelling errors will send
the wrong message about your brand. Try having a friend
review your resume to see if it reads and flows correctly.

It’s all about how you want to be
perceived by your future employer.
You are your own person and you
have your own story to tell. So let it be
heard, and sell it to them!
Clearly list your previous employers, titles, and length of
tenure. Be accurate and honest with dates and be ready to
support any breaks in your career (i.e. Career break)
