Swine flu, also known as H1N1 virus and pig flu, is fast spreading and very infectious. A lot of
cases have been registered lately not only in India but all over the world and it is very
important to be informed about this infection. The first case of H1N1 in humans was
reported much earlier but it became a pandemic in 2009 affecting America and various parts
of the world.
The virus first attacks pigs and is easily transmitted. When humans work in close proximity
with the affected pigs, even they tend to get infected. The virus causes respiratory problems
and nasal irritability in the animals. Pigs have the strain of influenza and when humans are
affected, the virus undergoes mutation and changes into H1N1 which has both pig and
human DNA. The virus is not constant but undergoes mutation and depending on this the
victim is diagnosed of H1N1, H2N2 or H3N3.
Be aware of the problems caused by swine flu and get yourself tested at your nearest Apollo
clinic as a precautionary step.

Vaccination is available for this infection; however, it is better to take precautions. Antiviral

available. Always remember to carry an alcohol based sanitizer as it is more effective in
killing virus and bacteria. Prevention is always better than cure so be informed and be safe!
