Antonio Juan Marcos is a Mexican composer born in 1979 in Mexico City. He studied classical guitar and composition in Mexico and Boston before moving to Paris in 2003 to continue his musical training. In 2007, he graduated with honors from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. His works have been performed around the world and entered the repertoire of prestigious ensembles. Currently, Antonio is pursuing his PhD in musical composition at the University of California Berkeley, where he also teaches harmony.

1. Antonio Juan Marcos _ Brief Biography
Born in Mexico City, in 1979, Antonio Juan Marcos started his musical training playing
classical guitar and later studied composition with Osvaldo Golijov at the Boston Conservatory.
In 2003 he moved to Paris, where he continued his musical training. In 2007 Antonio was
selected to study the bachelor and master degrees in composition at the “Conservatoire
National Supérieur de Musique de Paris”, where he graduated with honors with the piece
"Arder Aprender". From 2012 to 2013 he joined the course of electroacoustic composition of
the “Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique / Musique” (IRCAM). His works have been
presented in different countries, like the United States, Mexico, France and Belgium; they have
been played under the baton of conductors such as José Areán, David Miles, Zsolt Nagy, Kanako
Abe, Jeany Philippe Wurtz, Laurent Cuniot and Pierre Roullier. Antonio’s music has entered the
repertoire of prestigious ensembles and orchestras like the “Orchestre National de Lorraine”, the
Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City, “L’Ensemble Intercontemporain”, “L'Instant Donné”,
“Multilateral”, among others. His piece “El Afilador” has been recorded by cellist Marie Ythier and
released by the label Evidence Classics (distributed by Harmonia Mundi). At present Antonio
devotes himself to composition, with current commissions for “Les Folies Françoises”, and the
Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City. He is pursuing a doctorate in musical composition at the
University of California Berkeley, where he is also a professor of harmony.
