If I use “even though” or “in

“In spite of” is a preposition—
after it you need a noun or
noun phrase:

I spite of the Governor’s
opinion, this will still need to
be a law passed by the state
legislature.
While the governor

pay for adult classes, a
lot of people disagree
because it’s not enough.
Even though the
governor wants to make
a change, a lot of people
