Font Size • A minimum lower case x height of 1.2mm for all mandatory food information.
• PCD (LRS Pack Copy Document) will indicate the information that is required to
be at this minimum font size.
• A minimum of 0.9mm for a lower case x is possible where pre-aligned.
For example: Lucozade Energy Tablets.
• Always attempt text fit at 1.2mm x height initially. Where not possible notify LRS
of overflow issues.
• Content to follow format prescribed on PCD [note lowercase k for kJ].
• Default colouration is black/white.
• Minimal coloured shading may be acceptable this will have been communicated
as part of the Artwork&Repro brief to Schawk.
• Cannot use red/green/amber colour for text background on RI’s.
• Position on front of pack / primary selling face.
• Occasions where there are no RI’s will be communicated in LRS PCD.
• On cylindrical packs a degree of rotation is possible with RI’s being positioned as
close to centre as design permits (see example below).
Highlighting
Allergens
• Allergens are highlighted on the LRS PCD.
• Allergens must be emboldened against other ingredients within the list such
that they are immediately distinguishable. As a general rule this would mean
using at least the next full font weight up within the same font family
e.g. Plain to Bold, Bold to Black etc.
• When allergens appear reversed-out of the background in the ingredients list,
they must not only be emboldened but also key-lined in a contrasting colour, to
ensure maximum visual stand-out against the other ingredients present.
Legibility • Legibility should be optimised such that information can be easily read.
• Legibility is defined as letter spacing, spacing between lines, stroke width, type
colour, typeface, width-height ratio of the letters and significant contrast
between the print and the background.
• Graphics should not inhibit reading of information.
• Contact LRS to discuss legibility issues when they arise.
Extra 1.2mm
The measurement is ALWAYS on
a lower case “x”, even if a paragraph
is entirely upper case text.
Ingredient Examples:
Preservatives (Potassium Sorbate,
Sodium Bisulphite), Caffeine,
Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid), Colour...

Addresses
• If reduced address is required due to space restrictions, display overflow and
discuss with LRS for instruction.
• Ensure post codes and telephone numbers are not split over two lines when
flowing the master text into the artwork.
• The name and address of the business operator is mandatory information and
should have a minimum lower case x height of 1.2mm.
• Best practice: Minimum heights apply.
- Up to and including 1L is 4mm. Above 1L is 6mm.
• The weight / volume declaration must be in the same field of vision as the legal
name of the food. A small degree of rotation is possible to achieve this.

4. • Cutters should always be created using the standard LRS legend & key system.
• A Cutter can either be “Unapproved” or “Approved”.
• Cutters are filed on the LRS masters volume according to their status and also
which factory they relate to.
• No final repro file can be released with an unapproved profile.
• A cutter must always display dimensions (ideally in positions which do not hinder
the viewing of the artwork), along with a valid LRS Cutter Profile reference number.
• Always check the Cutter Profile library to ensure the latest drawing version is
being used on the artwork.
• When creating artwork for bottle sleeves or outer wraps, consideration needs to
be given to the effect of distortion on the artwork elements once the material is
wrapped around the product (see examples below).
• Profiles normally indicate areas of high distortion. Important information or
objects which need to retain a specific shape are best avoided in these areas.
• The Green dot symbol must be a minimum of 6mm in diameter, with the top arrow
colour being of most contrast.
• Guidelines for the various recycle boxes are located on the masters server.
• The specific recycle logos required for individual packaging components should
be identifed on the Artwork&Repro brief.

• When price marks are present on artworks, the following text must also appear

An asterisk or dagger symbol is used to link this statement with the flash.
N.b. Ensure the same symbol isn’t already used elsewhere on the artwork.
For example, a single asterisk is commonly used within the nutritional table.

As of April 2015:
• Non-barcoded bottle sleeves are to share common printing cylinders / plates with
the standard barcoded artworks. As such, non-barcoded artworks should be
created based on the approved standard barcoded artwork.
• Non-barcoded sleeves should have “NOT FOR INDIVIDUAL RESALE” written in
place of a barcode within the designated box on the artwork in the same colour.

5. Nutrition
Table
• Sometimes due to space limitations on a pack it is necessary to use a
reduced Nutrition table instead of the full one.
• The correct version to use should be indicated on the Artwork&Repro brief.
Please see examples below...
• For new designs the correct table will be incorporated into the design.
• For updates to artworks, a base file will be provided for reference.
• This is a unique code which is required to be present on every piece of artwork.
It can be found on the brief supplied by LRS for each artwork.
See the examples below:
Pack Copy
Codes
• Copy Codes are required to have a minimum font size of 7.5pt on shrink sleeves
to aid legibility during the manufacturing process.
• Artworks that are intended to use common cylinders / plates, (e.g. non-barcoded
bottle sleeves), must have copy codes placed in a white-out box. They must
also be the same colour as the barcode (or equivalent multi-pack disclaimer
text) on the job.

6. Printer
Codes
& Graphics
• Some printers (TetraPak for example), require their logo and graphics to be
displayed on the artwork. If so, this should be captured within the artwork
brief (referencing any necessary information that relate to them e.g. size,
position etc.).
• Current Printer master logos can be found on the LRSuntory Masters volume.
• Consideration needs to be given to the amount of T&C’s text required within the
amount of available space on the pack.
• Whilst promo T&C’s are not governed by FIC regulations, it is good working
practice to still aim for the 1.2mm minimum x height to aid legibility on pack.
Promotion
Terms &
Conditions
• In addition to the Pack Copy Code, some of the manufacturing sites require an
additional code to appear on the artwork. If required this code will be indicated
on the brief form (supplied by LRS).
Manufacturing
/ Factory
Codes
• In general barcodes must be at least 80% magnification and truncated to no
less than 16mm, however always refer to the specific printer spec for the
barcode setup details and BWR (bar width reduction) required.
• Depending on the type of packaging, the barcode position may be fixed or have
a specific orientation requirement (i.e. gate or ladder style only).
• Be aware of placing any barcodes in high distortion areas, as this may effect
their readability when being scanned.
• Barcodes can only be coloured up in certain colours. They must be solid with
either a high black, blue or green colour content. (For further clarification,
refer to the ‘Barcode Colour Guide’ document).
• It is vital that the minimum clear space generated around a barcode (referred
to as the quiet zone) is retained. Infringement of this zone is a common reason
for barcodes not scanning.
• This is mandatory on-pack information, and alerts the consumer to the
number of servings a bottle or pack contains.
• The content for a single unit will be supplied by LRS on the PCD. However, for
Multi serves this will be supplied on the Artwork Brief.
• This is a statement on pack to denote where the Best Before End stamp is
located.
• Refer to the PCD for the specific wording for individual packaging components.

• The requirement of what must be on pack will be on the PCD.

• There is a regulatory requirement to have a minimum address on pack.
• How it reads and the positioning will be on the Artwork&Repro brief.

• Edge marks are required on concentrate labels.
• Colour and position of edge marks will be supplied as part of the brief.

• When a specific location is required on the artwork for the BBE box, it should
