Annual Friends of The River Event Features Fido Fun Run

WHAT:
Streams and Valleys will host its annual Friends of the River- Party on the Plaza from 6-9 p.m. on Oct.
23rd. Presented by XTO Energy, proceeds from the event benefit improvement projects for the Trinity
River corridor in Tarrant County.
The event features a 6k chip-timed race, as well as a family and pet-friendly 3k. The fun runs are
followed by a block party in Montgomery Plaza. The celebration includes live music, free beer, and
wine, and a chance to sample food from more than 20 of the best restaurants in town.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES AND INTERVIEW
1) FitWorth’s Culinary Creations Competition– Local chefs will assist as mentors to three award-winning
student culinary teams who will showcase their award-winning recipes and culinary skills.
2) VIPS- Promoter of active lifestyle and a runner herself, Mayor Betsey Price will be in attendance
along with Streams and Valleys Director Stacey Pierce.
3) University of Texas at Arlington- Attendees will tour booths by UTA students who will pump up
everyone before the party. Students will also educate on the Friends of the River organization and on
how to keep the Trinity River clean.

About Streams and Valleys
· Streams and Valleys is a nonprofit founded in 1950 to address flooding and levee construction
that left the Trinity River unusable in Tarrant County.
· Streams and Valleys have planted 8,000 trees and added more than 40 miles of trails adjacent to
the river, with the help of volunteers.
· Recent projects that have benefited from Streams and Valleys include a pedestrian bridge to
improved neighborhood access to Trinity Trails.
· The organization seeks to increase urban recreation and river improvements.
About the Event
· Record attendance expected at the 2014 event is between 1700 and 1800.
· Friends of the River Party on the Plaza is 6k chip-timed race, as well as a family and pet friendly
3k. The 6k starts at 6:15 p.m., 3k at 6:25 p.m., and party on the plaza at 7 p.m..
· The block party will include live music, free beer, and wine, and a chance to sample food from
20 restaurants.
· Food will be cooked by top local chefs and the FitWorth’s Culinary.
