● Social stories were first introduced by
Carol Gray in 1993 and the others cite
Gray 1998 and 2004. “The primary
goal of Social Stories are to address
debilitating difficulties” that people with
ASD encounter socially. They are
“short stories written with the goal of
objectively sharing important social
information with individuals with ASD.
They explain difficult social situations
and concepts in simple words, thereby
providing students with 'practical,
tangible social information' about a
person, skill, event, concept, or
situation” Social stories are not a
means to change behavior, rather an
intervention to have a better social
understanding that may lead to
improved social functioning and
