SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women’s basketball team will face
No. 4 West Texas A&M in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Confer-
ence Championship held at the Allen Events Center on Wednesday
at 6 p.m.
The Belles enter with a 9-17 record but have won three of their last
five games heading into the tournament. Angelo State is 23-21 in
44 games at the LSC Tournament and making the 26th appearance
in program history. It is the fifth-straight appearance for the Belles
and second-straight under head coach Cayla Petree. The last win at
the LSC Tournament for ASU came in a 61-57 win over Cameron in
2012.
West Texas A&M is the No. 1 seed entering the tournament after
claiming the LSC Championship with a 15-1 conference record.
The Lady Buffs are currently ranked No. 4 and have won 15-straight
games. WT swept the season series with ASU while Chontiquah
White averaged 17.0 points per game against the Belles. The senior
is scoring 17.8 points per game this season while Sasha White is
adding 13.0 points per game. WT leads the conference in scoring
offense (79.6), scoring margin (16.3), field goal percentage (.491)
and rebounding defense (31.0).
In the two previous matchups this season, WT took the first game
in Canyon 80-49 and completed the season sweep in San Angelo
by a score of 67-50. The Belles struggled shooting against the Lady
Buffs only able to hit 32.7-percent from the field combined in the
two games.
The Lady Buffs hold a 50-18 overall series advantage with the last
ASU win coming in December of 2012 in San Angelo. West Texas
A&M won the last matchup at the LSC Tournament Championship in
2013. The Lady Buffs defeated the Belles 61-36 in the quarterfinals.
ASU is 1-4 against WT at the LSC Tournament Championship.
KeAnna Kelly and Diamalises Rivera had the most success against
the Lady Buffs. Kelly averaged 13.0 points per game with a season-
high 24 points in the second matchup. Rivera scored 14 points in
the second game against WT and averaged 11.0 points over both
games.
Rivera heads into the tournament coming off her best game of the
season. The junior recorded her first double-double of the season
with 22 points and 11 rebounds. It is her career high in rebounds
and the 11th game the Puerto Rican native has scored in double
figures. She has averaged 10.0 points per game this season and
13.7 points per game against conference opponents. Rivera leads
the team with 19 blocks as well.
Kelly, the Belles third leading scorer at 8.2 points per game, has nine
games in double digits. All nine games have come against confer-
ence opponents. She has made 36.6-percent from the 3-point line
and made 26 from behind the arc. The Arlington native has dished
out 29 assists and made 15 steals.
Shauna Coleman, who sat out the home finale with an injury, has
averaged 7.5 points per game this season. She has ASU’s only
other double-double on the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds
against Arlington Baptist. The freshman has scored in double figures
in eight games including 10 in the first matchup with WT.
Leila Jdily-Ezzad is scoring 5.4 points per game and is tied for third
on the team with 29 assists. The junior transfer has recorded 19
steals and scored double figures in three games this season. Jdily-
Ezzad is grabbing 3.3 rebounds per game in 23.9 minutes per game.
Michelle Rosewell will be the only player with experience in the LSC
Tournament Championship. The senior leads the team in steals (28)
and assists (55). She is averaging 2.4 points per game. She did
score a career-high 13 points against Midwestern State. Rosewell
scored eight points in last year’s quarterfinal game in Allen.
Keva Raiford, who earned her first start against Texas A&M-Kings-
ville, scored three points and dished out three assists. The junior is
scoring 1.7 points per game this season and grabbing 1.6 rebounds.
Minja Savic, Elaine Herrera, Shanna Taylor and Jordan Whitaker
could see time off the bench. Herrera has made nine 3-pointers this
season and dished out 24 assists. Taylor averages 1.3 points per
game and has sunk five 3-pointers. Savic is averaging 2.4 points per
game and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Amanda Weaver, the team’s leading 3-point shooter with 42 and
second leading scorer, will be out for the duration of the LSC Tourna-
ment Championship with an injury.

com, as well as the Allen Event Center box office. Single-session
tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
The winner of the game will play the winner of Tarleton State and
Texas Woman’s at 12 p.m. on Friday. The Belles last advanced to the
semifinals in 2011-12 with a 61-57 win over Cameron.
The game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bry-
ant on the call.
