2. Theme-Based Mode
Theme-Based Mode instead of timeline-based mode is
kind of a revolution for social media platforms.
On Medium, firstly, when user starts to write his own
stories, he does not need to set up his own blog as he
always did on WordPress or Blogger.
Secondly, a writer does not need to worry about nobody
comes to their blog site since their articles is under
certain tags/ themes. User who interested in those
themes are more likely to read the writer’s words when
he browsing the theme page.
Thirdly, creating a tags is to some extent constricted.
Not like Instagram or Facebook that users can create
hashtag whatever they like, Only a small group of
professional User on Medium has the right to edit tags.
The role of Individual is blurred that makes user more
concentrate on ideas and words

3. Recommendation and Sharing
Functions
The recommendation and sharing functions are
similar to Twitter’s.
Articles can be shared to different themes either by
reader or by author.
The page will recommend articles by reader’s
recommendations rather than the reputation or
authority of the writer.
10. MY OWN THOUGHTS
HIGHLIGHTS:
• A platform with equality and openness
As a user-generated platform, Medium is more focus on
content rather than individual user, so everyone on the platform
Is equal and can equally share their stories and opinions.
• High quality
Medium could be seen as a blogging revolution that boost the
Innovation of blog. It does not follow timeline to present social user
content that makes user to more concentrate on the quality instead
of
instantaneity. Personally thinking, it is a good place for journalists
to write insightful report and analysis towards certain social issues.
• Good user experience on writing and
reading
Due to its simple user-friendly interface design, it gives reader and
writer a good experience on reading and writing, It could be seen as
an good example for content-based news/ social media apps or
website
WEAKNESS:
• Lack of social interaction
Unlike other social media platform, users cannot mutually
follow each other or have private chat on Medium.
• Hard to trace Subscriptions
The online Medium publications is for users to subscribe
to. However, on the homepage, medium does not push
users 'subscriptions, which make it hard for users to
update their subscriptions
• Lack of instantaneity
Unlike typical news apps or websites, medium does not
focus on the instantaneity, which means it does not
contain breaking news and the articles may some kind
not follow the latest news update.
