2. Learning Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, the students are expected to…
• Understand the Concept of Physical Wellness
• Understand the Concept of Physical Fitness
• Identify the Difference between Physical Wellness and Physical
Fitness
3. Wellness
Wellness is defined by the National Institute of Wellness as "an active
process through which people gain conscious of, and take decisions toward,
a more successful lifestyle."
Dimensions of Wellness
• Physical
• Emotional/Psychological
• Social
• Intellectual/Cognitive
• Spiritual
• Occupational
• Environmental
• Economic
• Cultural
• Climate
4. Physical Wellness
is how well you're able to constantly lead a healthy lifestyle in addition to
taking care of your body. Physical wellness acknowledges how much
impact our everyday routine and actions have on our general health,
wellbeing, and quality of life. It involves acknowledging the need of
regular exercise, a healthy diet, restful sleep, stress management, social
interaction, refraining from illnesses and injuries, and addressing chronic
health conditions.
5. Choosing wise decisions affects one’s
physical wellness in the following areas:
• Physical Activity
• Food Intake
• Stress
• Liquors
• Sleep
6. Physical Fitness
Physical fitness refers to a state of health and wellbeing
and, more particularly, the capacity to engage in certain
activities related to sports, jobs, and daily living. Physical
fitness is often attained with healthy eating,
moderate-intense exercise, enough rest, and a formal
recovery plan.
7. Importance of Fitness
Physical activity can strengthen your bones and
muscles, help you maintain a healthy weight,
increase your ability to carry out daily tasks, and
improve your cognitive health.
9. Health-related
1. Cardiovascular endurance-how efficiently your heart and lungs can provide
the oxygen you require when engaging in medium- to high-intensity activity.
2. Muscular endurance- the capacity of a muscle or group of muscles to exert
forcefully and repeatedly over an extended period of time.
3. Muscular strength- how much weight you can lift or how much force you can
exert.
4. Flexibility -the capacity of a joint or group of joints to move freely and without
experiencing pain.
5. Body composition -the proportions of bone, muscle, and fat in your body.
10. Skills-related
1. Agility- the capacity to quickly shift body direction or speed up or slow down.
2. Balance- A person's ability to keep their line of gravity inside their base of
support is referred to as balance.
3. Coordination - The capacity to carry out coordinated motor actions (the best
possible interaction of muscle activity) is the definition of coordination.
4. Power -the capacity to overcome resistance in the shortest amount of time,
enabling one to achieve higher speeds while carrying a given burden.
5. Reaction Time -the time is take for you to initiate an action or movement in
response to a stimuli.
6. Speed - the capacity to move the body quickly, in whole or in part.
11. Similarities:
• The desire of bettering one's physical health and quality of life is common
ground in both wellness and fitness.
• To support individuals in achieving the best possible condition through
physical fitness is the primary objective of wellness and fitness.
• A person can live a healthier and happier life by leading a healthy lifestyle
(wellness) and engaging in physical activity (fitness).
12. Differences:
-While fitness places a greater emphasis on physical activities like exercise
and nutrition, wellness is a more comprehensive approach to leading a
healthy lifestyle.
-Wellness is a state of general good health, equilibrium, and contentment. It
emphasizes the entirety of a person's existence, taking into account social,
psychological, and emotional well-being as well as physical health. Fitness
on the other hand, tends to concentrate on one’s physical health, body
strength, and bodily functions.
