2. The Movie
Title of the movie – Crazy Catfish
Synopsis – Spot it, report it
3. Treatment
Running Time - 7-10 mins
Genre – Drama
Why is it an original idea – It is an original idea because it is raising awareness
about catfishing which is a common issue affecting youth in this day and age.
4. Treatment
Narrative of the movie:
Beginning – The 14-year-old boy receives a message from a woman that’s pretending to
be a 14-year-old catfish; however, he doesn't know the girl is actually a cat-fish until the
end.
Middle – The 14-year-old boy and catfish agree to meet at the fancy restaurant later
today at 5pm and asks his mother if he can go which the mother agrees with.
End – The boy realises that it was a catfish and calls the police, the catfish gets arrested.
The boy then becomes very anti-social and has severe depression and anxiety of
meeting new people because of the severe impact the catfish has had on the boy
The short film does have a recognition and equilibrium as the recognition includes
the boy finding out he's been messaging a catfish and the police being called and the
equilibrium includes the catfish getting arrested.
5. Treatment
Purpose – To promote my skills of being a filmmaker, to have
my film shown in film festivals and to have it screened in the
short film slot on Channel 4. This has developed my skills of
filmmaking and becoming more confident as a filmmaker.
Thematic – To raise awareness about the dangers of catfishing
for the younger generation who use social media on a daily
basis. But it can also be beneficial for older people as they
could be victims of catfishing as well on social media. The
themes in the film which could direct people to support is at
the end of the film there can be some links to cat-fish
helplines for viewers who are experiencing the same issues
that were in the video so that they can get support and
advice.
6. 14-year-old boy
He will be the main character of the story
as he will be the victim of the catfishing
on Snapchat. His interests are going out
with friends and going to parties. He is
important in the story as he is going to be
a victim of catfishing
7. Catfish
She is going to be the catfish who will pretend to be a
teenage girl and agree to meet up with the boy. She enjoys
going out and wears a lot of make-up. The impact they will
have against the protagonist is that they will meet up with
the teen and potentially harm them.
8. Boy's mother
She will be the boy's mother who will be
in shock and fear to find out her son has
been speaking to a catfish online and
she will teach him to always speak to
people he knows in person on social
media. She is originally from a beautiful
city called Kraków in Poland and she
immigrated to the UK 8 years ago when
her son was 6 years old. Her interests
are going out with friends and looking
after her son.
9. Police
The police will arrest the catfish
when the boy calls them. They
will have a crucial part of
stopping the catfish potentially
harming the boy. They have been
investigating online crime and
abuse for years and have got
years of experience.
13. Post Production
Development - Feature film, Cat-fish pressuring the boy to respond to personal
questions, threatening the boy if he doesn't answer the questions, asking for his
address etc and Cat-fish taken to court after getting reported. So I could develop
all of this into a feature film by having shifts in time where the story moves on by
a few years.
Screening and distribution – Channel 4 short film slot at 7pm, short film festivals,
streaming on All4, DVD, it would be certified as a 12 as there is no violence, gore
and language.
14. Post Production
Legal Issues – Copyright infringement such as
music, logos of brands e.g., Nike and Addidas.
Suitable before watershed which starts at 9pm so
no strong bloody violence, no glamorisation of
drug use and mild use of bad language that is
used in context e.g. getting frightened or
shocked.
Ethical issues – Offensive stereotypes to race, religion, sexual
orientation or sexism and no Racal slurs or terrorist
references. Also I am not going to enforce negative
stereotypes for example saying that only teenagers are
victims of cat-fishing as it can happen to anyone of any age.
Child Protection Act – I'm not going to let a child under 18 to
work more than 4 hours, and they can't be exposed to sexual
activity or affect their education.

23. Target Audience
Primary target audience – Young teenagers,
youth aged 15-18, socio economic group E. It
would appeal to this particular audience as
many teenagers aged 15-18 use social media
religiously and many of them are victims of cat-
fishing compared to older age groups who may
not be on social media a lot.
Secondary target audience – Adults aged
between 35-45, socio economic group A and B
including film producers who would like to get
involved in the production of the film in some
way. Also, for parents who may be watching
with their children before the news.
