How Far Education is Affected
Through COVID?
The shutdown of schools is one of the most significant repercussions of the COVID pandemic on the education
sector. In this instance, schools across the globe were closed indefinitely due to the spread of the coronavirus. Due
to the time children and students were required to spend at home, educational opportunities were missed. These
school closures caused significant disruptions to the global education system.
However, the COVID-19 epidemic permanently altered the school schedule, resulting in mental health difficulties
among students, teachers, and parents. During the epidemic, emotional and psychological health issues among
instructors and pupils mostly impacted schools.
How COVID-19 Influenced the Educational System?
• The education system was disrupted by the COVID pandemic because schools were closed en
masse. Globally, these closures caused significant disruptions to the educational system (Gloster
4). Developing data indicates that schools in low-income to high-income nations such as the
European Union, the United States, Canada, and Australia were affected. The outbreak
exacerbated educational disparities and learning losses. Once the pandemic was over, the
majority of nations resorted to establishing and implementing learning recovery programs to
mitigate and reverse the long-term harmful effects (Ma et al. 4).
• At the height of the pandemic, numerous countries across the globe closed their schools,
affecting millions of pupils worldwide. Teachers and other school administrators were compelled
to adjust since they were unprepared for the sudden change in circumstances. Consequently, the
majority of institutions were compelled to implement emergency response mechanisms and
other remote learning technologies.
• As students were unable to attend physical classes, one of the most significant effects of COVID
on the educational system was the implementation of distance learning. Therefore, virtual
teaching approaches have become prevalent and standard. However, emergency distance
learning had one limitation: it was difficult for students and professors to communicate personally
(Gloster 3).
How COVID-19 Influences People’s Mental Health?
• As more and more individuals were afflicted by the pandemic, the majority of schools became centers for mental health
difficulties. In this instance, both teachers and children were affected by an unfamiliar change in the educational atmosphere. The
COVID pandemic confronted parents, instructors, students, and other school stakeholders with numerous challenges. Those pupils
who were already battling with mental health issues were the most vulnerable to the new norm in schools (Gloster 1).
• Mental and psychological problems increase susceptibility to the necessary alterations. When schools were closed, the majority of
children and students began to experience emotional distress, and those with psychological problems became despondent.
Isolation, recommendations for physical separation, school closures, and other unanticipated adjustments in their new lives are
among the factors that have contributed to a rise in mental health difficulties among kids.
• Due to the disruption of the school calendar, the COVID-19 epidemic caused psychological problems among school-aged
youngsters (Gloster 4). Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of students exhibited melancholy
symptoms. For instance, the majority of youngsters between the ages of 7 and 15 were unable to accept online education, the
new method of teaching kids in a virtual setting (Ma et al. 1). Consequently, the majority of pupils did not feel at ease with the
new instructional style. Although online education was the solution to the COVID-19 pandemic among students, it posed a hurdle
in the form of psychological difficulties.
• On the other hand, the majority of schools lacked intervention methods to assist them in coping with the psychological effects of
the virus on children. School closure, fear of infection, and isolation, which had an impact on the education system and led to
mental and psychological health difficulties, were among the most noteworthy sources of psychological health (Ma et al. 5). In
addition, several students were traumatized, resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder.
