A nearly incident-free
first day of
school at Jefferson County Public
Schools meant a smooth beginning for
the 96,000 students who started class-
es Wednesday.
JCPS spokesman Ben Jackey said
Wednesday evening that the last stu-
dent was dropped off at 6:35 p.m., 20
minutes earlier than on the first day a
year ago. He said “99.9 percent of our
students” were dropped off by 5:45.
One bus was delayed after break-
ing down with 12 students aboard at

“You’re always going to run into
something on the first day, and there’s
always isolated situations that will
needtobefixedforthesecondday,”he
said Wednesday evening. “But by and
large, the day went really well.”
The district projects a total enroll-
ment of 102,367 students this school
year. The remaining students will
start preschool Aug. 27.

regular rate, less any applicable credits, unless The Spectrum is otherwise notified. The
Thanksgiving Day edition is delivered with your subscription and will be charged the then
regular Sunday newsstand price, which is reflected in the November payment. Applicable
taxes may not be included in the rate. If we fail to home deliver a print edition, we will
credit your account the then regular credit attributed to providing home delivery of the
print edition. If at any time you decide to cancel your subscription, you may contact
customer service at 1-800-748-5489 and the full amount of any balance over $2.00 will
be returned.
If you choose EZ Pay, you authorize The Spectrum to automatically charge the credit card
or bank account you indicate on the 8th, 15th, 22nd or 29th of every month, unless the
8th, 15th, 22nd or 29th falls on a weekend or holiday, and then the deduction is taken on
the next business day. Any outstanding balances will be processed with the first EZ Pay
charge. Your first EZ Pay charge will be prorated based on the start date. The Spectrum will
be referenced on your credit card or bank statement for any payments made toward your

This was a freelance project I did
for TEAM BSA (Boys Scouts of
America). It is meant to educate
people on what adventure racing
and Team BSA’s mission. The color
scheme of hunter green, brown,
and beige reflects the colors of the
boy scout uniform. The window like
design gives the sense of a road
map quality and a somewhat unique
liveliness.

This brochure was a freelance project
I did for a salon in Vienna, VA. called
Bellini Salon and Spa. The salon color
theme contains earthy browns and
accents of jewel green. The salon is an
upscale salon, so they wanted a very
clean, chic, classy, yet modern feel to
their brochure.

Project:
This was a company I
conceptualized and branded. This
company makes t-shirts with tribal
tattoo designs on certain places of
the shirt where people would actually
get tattoos. I took certain elements
from tribal tattoo designs and
incorporated them into my branding
process.

This piece is meant to promote
the branding and opening of the
Ontario Zoo. The logo is meant to
offer a candid, accurate, thoughtful
and lively view of Ontario Zoo. I
wanted the logo to be something
recognizable to both children and
adults by finding a common ground
between a childlike and adult image
of a toucan.
