This document is a thesis submitted by Andrea Bowen to Valdosta State University in partial fulfillment of requirements for an Educational Specialist degree in School Counseling. The thesis assessed 470 Georgia principals' awareness of appropriate and inappropriate school counselor duties as outlined by the American School Counselors' Association and Georgia Department of Education. The research found that while principals were aware of appropriate counselor duties, they also rated inappropriate duties like school-wide tasks as needing priority. This indicates principals know proper counselor roles but still assign non-counseling functions for counselors to complete.
Test-Anxiety and Self-Esteem as a Predictor of Secondary School Students’ Aca...inventionjournals
This study investigated test-anxiety and self-esteem as a predictor of secondary school students’ academic self-efficacy in Ekiti State. It also examined the relationship betweenthe twopsycho-social factors (self-esteem and test-anxiety) and students’ academic self - efficacy. The study employed the descriptive research design of the survey type. The population consisted of all students from the public secondary schools in Ekiti central senatorial district of Ekiti State. The sample for this study was 200 students which were selected from four secondary schools using Multistage Sampling technique. A self-structured questionnaire tagged “Psychosocial Factors and Students’ Academic Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (PFSASEQ)” was used to collect relevant data for the study. The face and content validity of the instrument was determined by experts of Test and Measurements and researcher’s supervisor. It was said to have facial relevance and concerned with the subject matter, the instrument claim to measure. The hypotheses postulated were subjected to inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis. All the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there was significant relationship between test-anxiety, self – esteem and students’ academic self – efficacy. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that students self-esteem can be enhanced and test-anxiety reduced by creating an enabling environment for mentoring where they can practice assertiveness skills which will in turn boost their confidence to perform all academic tasks successfully .
I have often found myself in debates with other parents about why our white children, as a racially defined group, are earning subpar test scores when compared to Asian American students. For instance, there is an elementary school in Fayette County in Lexington, KY that consistently earns the spot as the #1 school for test scores, and it coincidentally has a large population of Asian students. Wanting to learn from this high-achieving cultural group, I researched their educational methods and have come up with three possible reasons why Asian American children in Lexington, KY outscore white students on standardized tests and proficiency assessments.

Illiteracy in the Chesterfield County School District
Throughout the years, students in the Chesterfield County School District have shown how unprepared they are when it comes to reading. Many factors that contribute too many students struggling in the area of reading which include but is not limited to, parents are working more and not able to provide sufficient time to reading at home. Our classrooms are overcrowded due to a shortage of properly trained teachers, and funding for schools are limited, which prevent schools from purchasing up-to-date necessities that would allow students to meet basic requirements for state testing. Teachers are buying school supplies out of their own pockets, so students will have the paper and pencil needed for school. Students enrolled in high schools in this district are still reading and comprehending on a fourth grade level. Allowing these students to proceed to the next grade level without proper training, makes catching up academically very difficult to obtain the requirements needed for graduation. Majority of these students are minority’s students who are struggling with reading skills in South Carolina. South Carolina itself has a problem with illiteracy and reading readiness.Comment by JONES, SHELLEY: You’ve done well to provide the local context for your local problem, but note that the introduction does not prove that there is, indeed, a problem in Chesterfield County with reading. I selected a problem (issue, concern, or need) in my professional practice, discussed the problem and purpose and developed 3 research questions to guide the literature review for my action research proposal. In this paper, I drafted a literature review by selecting, evaluating, and synthesizing 5-6 peer-reviewed articles. My goal in conducting this literature review is to identify best-practice solution(s) or intervention(s) that I may implement related to the identified problem (issue, concern, or need) and then decide on the solution or intervention I will (propose to) implement in my action research proposal.
Counselling Needs of Higher Secondary School Students of Kerala: An Explorati...iosrjce
The present investigation was directed towards the identification of counselling needs of the higher
secondary school students of Kerala as perceived by higher secondary school teachers by normative survey
method. Perceptions of 200 teachers from selected schools were used to assess the counselling needs. For this, a
Counselling Needs inventory was constructed by the investigator. Results of the analysis indicate that higher
secondary school students have strong counselling needs, as perceived by their teachers. Results also show that
there is no significant difference between male and female teacher perception on the counselling needs of higher
secondary school students.

3. ABSTRACT
Various researchers have identified the struggle that school counselors face with regard to role
definition in their school system. The American School Counselors’ Association as well as the
Georgia Department of Education have both outlined appropriate and inappropriate duties for
school counselors in an attempt to clarify any misconceptions. The purpose of this study is to
assess 470 Georgia principals’ awareness of school counselor roles at the elementary, middle,
and high school levels. The research indicates that principals at all levels are aware of
appropriate school counselor duties and list those duties as needing priority. However, principals
at all levels also rated inappropriate duties as needing to be given priority as well. This indicates
that Georgia principals maybe aware of what school counselors should be doing, but disregard
the role requirements in favor of assigning school wide duties that need to be complete the
school counselor.
