This itinerary provides details for a 14-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek, beginning and ending in Kathmandu, Nepal. The trek takes hikers through the Annapurna mountain range, with highlights including views of Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhare, and Annapurna I from Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp. Day trips are taken to sights in Kathmandu and Pokhara, with the majority of days spent hiking between villages in the Annapurna region, ascending to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters before descending.
1. Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu (1,300m).
After arriving in Kathmandu, our representative welcomes in Airport & transfer to hotel.
Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and trek preparation.
Kathmandu Durbar Square:
This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between 12th and 18th Centuries, used
to be the seat of ancient Malla Kings of Kathmandu. It is the place where kings of Nepal are
crowned and their coronations solemnized. An intriguing piece here is the 17th century stone
inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages. Kumari Temple.
Patan Durbar Square
Patan Durbar Square is an enchanting mélange of Palace buildings, artistic courtyards and
graceful pagoda temples. Listed as a World Heritage Site, the former Royal Palace complex is
the center of Patan’s religious and social life, and houses a museum containing an array of
bronze statues and religious monuments. One remarkable monument here is 17th century
temple dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna, built entirely of stone.
Day03:Kathmandu – Pokhara (910m/2,986ft), Nayapul –Tirkhedhunga (1,495m)- Ulleri
(1,950m), 1½ hrs drive (45 km), 25 min flight, 5-6 hrs trek,.
Morning after breakfast, transfer to Kathmandu’s domestic airport for a morning flight to
Pokhara along with Annapurna Himalayan Range and drive along the zigzag route to Nayapul
where we commence our trek to Birethanti, a large and prosperous riverside village at the
confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi Kholas (streams). We hike up to Sudame along the off
road and then climb gradually up the side of the valley, Tikhedhunga. Cross suspension metal
bridge and steep ascent on stone staircases to the village of Ulleri – and an amazing landscape
of valley floor where we came during the day with marvelous views of Annapurna South and
Hiunchuli. Overnight in Ulleri at Lodge.
Day 04: Ulleri - Ghorepani (2,850/6 hrs).
After breakfast, our pleasant trekking begins through rhododendron and oak forests. The
scenery will give you the energy to continue up the steps as you immerse yourself in the walk.
After a few hours and with several breaks we reach Ghorepani. Upper Ghorepani (Deurali)
where we stay in this trip, offers fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna Himalayas.
2. Overnight in Ghorepani at Lodge.
Day05:Walk up Poon hill (3,210m/10,528ft) Ghorepani – Tadapani (2,520m/8268ft), 7-8hrs,
~12km
Make a pre-dawn start for the 45 minute walk up Poon hill (3,210m/10,530ft); through
rhododendron forest. From the grassy top of the hill there is an unobstructed panoramic view
of the high Himalayas stretching from far western Dolpo, and Dhaulagiri (8,172m/26,812ft), the
Annapurna Range in the north, including Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail) and on to Manaslu
(8,163m/26,783ft) in the northeast. To the south, the mist slowly rises from the flatlands
towards India. After countless photographs, walk back to Ghorepani for breakfast. The
eastward trail to Tadapani crosses numerous ridges through thick pine and rhododendron
forest with occasional flat sections and wonderful views of the snow peaks to the north from
high ground. Overnight in Tadapani at Lodge.
Day 06: Tadapani - Chhomrong (2,110m/7,249 ft), 5-6 hrs,~12km
The trail turns north to Chiule before dropping to cross the Kimrong Khola on a suspension
bridge and then gradually climbs into the forested Modi Khola Valley that carries glacial melt
waters from the Annapurna Sanctuary. After lunch at the Gurung village of Talung, undulate for
another 1½hrs,sometimes on stair cases up to the charming agricultural village of Chhomrong: :
the largest settlement in the valley. Views of the upper valley plus Annapurna South and Himal
Chuli gradually come into view. Overnight in Chhomrong at Lodge.
Day07: Chhomrong – Himalaya Hotel (2,920m/9,578ft), 6-7 hrs, ~12km
After breakfast, the trail drops to cross the Chhomrong Khola and then ascends to the pretty
village of Sinuwa. Thereafter the trail enters the upper Modi Khola Valley through dense forests
of cane,rhododendron and oak. It rises then drops to the village of Bamboo (2,310m/7,580ft)
on the banks of the river: a prefect lunch spot. After lunch, continue up through uninhabited
forest to Dobhan, later crossing several avalanche chutes before reaching the small village of
Himalaya Hotel. Overnight in Himalaya Hotel at Lodge.
Day08: Himalaya Hotel – Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m/13,546ft), 6-7 hrs, ~10km
As the altitude increases, forest gives way to alpine scrub and grasses. The valley walls steepen
with the river raging far below. Explore the cave at Hinku before crossing a ravine and major
avalanche track prior to reaching Deorali (3,230m/10,598ft). Breathtaking views into the sacred
Annapurna Sanctuary gradually appear as the trail heads over a ridge and climbs to the
Machhapuchhare Base Camp(3,700m/12,136ft). Another two hours slow walk up grassy slopes
leads to the Annapurna Base Camp hotels on the Annapurna South glacial moraine: some
3,900m/12,800ft beneath the peaks crowning the surrounding ice walls. Overnight in ABC at
Lodge.
Day09: Annapurna Base Camp – Bamboo (2,300m/7,544ft), 5-6 hrs, ~13km
3. Apre-dawn wakeup call promises unforgettable views and photo opportunities from the rim of
the glacier. A circle of peaks from Hiunchuli, past Annapurna South to the vast ice wall topped
by Annapurna I (8,097m/26,566ft) and Khangsar Kang tower above you round, to Gangapurna,
Annapurna III and Machhapuchhare. Below, in its U-shaped valley the glacier grinds
relentlessly. After breakfast,retrace your steps down to Bamboo on the river for a more
comfortable night. Overnight in Bamboo at Lodge.
Day10: Bamboo – Jhinu Danda (1,780m/5,859 ft), 5-6 hrs, ~11km
Today’s trail regains height as it rises to Kuldi and attractive Sinuwa beyond which it drops to
cross the Chhomrong Khola and the neat steps that return you to Chhomrong. From there it is
but a short, steep drop to the compact village of Jhini Danda. Overnight in Jhinu Danda.
Day11: Jhinu Danda – Pothana (1,910m /6,266ft), 5-6 hrs, ~12km
The trail meanders through scattered trees and bushes to the village of Tolka before beginning
a steep and attractive two hour forest ascent to Deorali. This bustling hilltop village looks back
towards the high peaks with an extended view of the Annapurnas from Dhaulagiri
(8,167m/26,796ft: the highest peak in western Nepal) across to its right flank. It also offers
scintillating views over the Pokhara Valley and Phewa Lake to the south.The trail then descends
(over slippery red clays when wet) through forests and farmland to the quieter welcoming
village of Pothana. Overnight in Pothana at Lodge.
Day12: Pothana – Phedi – Pokhara (910m/2,986ft), 3-4 hrs, ~10km, 40 min, 22km drive
The final, short day’s trek is mainly downhill through attractive open farmland. An hour’s walk,
with good views back over the Annapurna’s, leads to a slight ridge and then the large village of
Dhampus.The trail then descends along a dirt road through scattered hamlets and paddy fields
to Phedi – and the Pokhara – Baglung Highway. A short drive will return you to your hotel in
Pokhara before 12pm. Rest of day free. Overnight in Pokhara at Lodge.
Day13: Pokhara city tour and afternoon drive back to Kathmandu, 220km,4 -5 hrs
After breakfast, explore the Queen City of Pokhara including: David’s waterfall, Shiva’s cave and
the Tibetan Refugee Camp Craft Centre (Chore Patan). Afternoon drive back to Kathmandu car
journey to Kathmandu, offers fascinating glimpses of rural Nepal as you pass through Middle
Hill scenery along the famous rafting Trishuli River originated from Tibet north east of
Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day14: Departure
Transfer to international airport and fly to onward destination.
