2. Understanding Dementia
• Dementia literally means shrinking of the brain
• What can we do as Youth to change the way we
approach Dementia?
• In Latin, Dementia means ‘’mad’’ or ‘’insane” but is
it really? Or are we looking at something that just
needs broader awareness?
• How can today’s youth provide
• An inclusive environment for dementia patients?
• Comfort and care ?
• A Meaningful interaction?
• Let’s start with “Sensing for a Better Tomorrow!”
3. Get Out of the Zone
– Take Action!
• Think outside the Box!
• Be Creative
• Start with the Basics!
• Be comfortable with silence
• Look to extend or prolong the basics
• Make dementia patients feel less isolated, dependent
or depressed
• The brain releases serotonin and endorphins
with a charing touch either by the fur of an
animal or various fabrics
• Help maintain a sense of dignity
• Let the dementia patient work independently
with simple tasks like open, close or flickering a
light switch
•
Bring sight and color to their environment
• With sensory bottles to stimulate the senses
• Spread Awareness!
• Staying mentally and physically active reduces the
risk of developing dementia by nearly half by building
and maintaining ‘’sensing’’ or nerve stimulation
