Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google that is based on the Linux kernel. It was created in 2003 by Android Inc., which was acquired by Google in 2005. Google unveiled Android in 2007 along with the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. As of 2013, Android devices accounted for over half of global smartphone sales and had over 1 billion devices activated.

6. The Revolution……..
 Android was unveiled in 2007 along with the
founding of the Open Handset Alliance , a
consortium of hardware, software, and
telecommunication companies devoted to
advancing open standards for mobile devices.
 Google marketed the platform to handset makers
and carriers on the promise of providing a
flexible, upgradable system.

its Nexus series of devices.
 Google releases the Nexus

 The Nexus devices were built by
Google with the help of their
manufacturing partners like
HTC, Samsung, Asus & LG.

 Android devices account for more than half of
Smartphone sales in most markets, including the US.
 In the third quarter of 2013, Android's share of the
global Smartphone shipment market was 81.3%, the
highest ever.
 As of May 2013, 48 billion apps have been installed
from the Google Play store, and by September 2013,
1 billion Android devices have been activated.
