Radiation kills bacteria by damaging their DNA and other cellular components. Exposure to radiation causes mutations in bacteria that prevent them from reproducing and functioning normally, ultimately leading to their death. A sufficient dose of radiation destroys bacteria and prevents the spread of infection.
