1. The Hoopla Hoop arrived from a dream between editor-at-large Jeff Lagasca and
managing editor Alma Verdejo. It was just something that we spoke about, on and
off since early 2009 but something that took time because both were busy with
personal projects and work. Oh, and there was also that pesky issue of Alma Verdejo
living in Texas while The Hoopla Hoop would be based out of New York City. Then, it
all changed.
In early 2010, The Hoopla Hoop just popped up after all those months of planning
and talking. The main driving force was Jeff Lagasca, who had always wanted to
create an online multimedia magazine that spoke to young, creative minds that
wanted to find their narrative voice in New York City. That’s where the writers also
come from.
Seeking out writers, Jeff spoke to anyone who might be interested in contributing.
Alma was now living in New York City and was one of the first to join and offer her
editorial experience to the project. Then, other friends signed up as well as
acquaintances and others who wanted a magazine that spoke to their love and
passion for New York City.
