Trend of the Month: Give Up the Fun Stuff - Less
Dessert, Less Alcohol and No Smoking!
This year, consumers are giving up or cutting back on more of
life’s pleasures than they did last year. Responses show a 54%
increase in the number of people who want to quit smoking, a
61% increase in the number of people who plan to drink less and
a 162% increase in the number of people who want to eat less
dessert. Nearly 40% more people made a health related resolu-
tion this year and they intend to turn it into a year-round life
change. A recent Allrecipes survey* asking consumers about
their diets, health, and eating habits revealed additional key
findings including the following:

Home cooks craved economical comfort food favorites in
January, no doubt due to cold winter weather as well as the
sniffy, sneezy cold season, and searched for Chicken and Dump-
lings and Chicken Noodle Soup. Apple searches dropped off, and
cooks seemed to favor noodles over rice, while searches for
pricier meats such as pork and steak fell farthest.
