2. Vivienne Westwood
Born Vivienne Isabel Swire in Glossop,
Derbyshire, on April 8, 1941.
At 17 Vivienne and her family moved to
Harrow, London where she Harrow School of
Art-University of Westminster.
She took fashion and silversmithing, but
left after one term.
She became a primary school teacher and
on the side took up creating her own jewelry.
She met Malcolm McLaren and ended her
first marriage, they moved into a council flat
in Clapham.
3. • Punk Rock officially began in New York City
between 1973-1974.
• Malcolm visited New York and returned to
England in May 1975 to begin the band The
Sex Pistols, jumpstarting a major sensation.
• Punk Rock was a Cultural Revolution and it
was all about self-liberation.
4. 430 Kings Rd
McLaren and Westwood opened a record
store at the back of Paradise Garage.
In 1971 they acquired the whole store
and renamed it Let it Rock.
Westwood began teaching herself about
fashion by deconstructing 50s garments.
McLaren was her main source of
inspiration.
