4. “Volume 1” and “volume 2” Paul Noble 2006-7
Paul Noble often uses artistic references in his work, with the sculptor
Henry Moore as the more prominent. This was apparent in Noble’s early
work, where Moore’s work started to appear in his drawings in different
forms.
Volume 1 and volume 2 are the first two from six drawings. Noble drew
the entirety of Moore’s sculptures in the catalogue of Moore’s complete
works, so each drawing refers to the volumes of the catalogue. They are
drawn overlapping with each other to give the impression that they were
tied with a rope. Although his drawings are black and white, Noble
works with different hard and soft graphite pencils that he applies as
colours to achieve a variety of densities and textures
7. Steel thigh defense, fluted with etched borders
of the Hopfer group. With the etched design of
two sphinxes holding a renaissance covered
cup on the upper border, Most likely made in
Augsburg, Germany. This pieces of armour was
made using acid- etched metal. This armor was
(thought to be) made by Daniel Hopfer who
was a German artist, widely believed to have
been the first to use etching in printmaking.

11. A MUSLIM, A CHRISTIAN AND A JEW
In the series “A Muslim, a Christian and a
Jew,” Eran Shakine explores the similarities
and differences between the three world
religions Islam, Christianity and Judaism.
In sketchy oil pastel drawings, a Muslim, a
Christian and a Jew – an outwardly
indistinguishable trio – explore the world. The
exhibition title plays on the first line of a joke
drawing on stereotypes.
Influenced by Street Art, Eran Shakine’s piece
includes drawings, paintings and sculptures,
as well as art in public spaces.
He was born in Israel in 1962 to
a French father and a
Hungarian mother, both of
whom went to Israel as
Holocaust survivors. Having
spent some years in Paris,
London and New York, Eran
Shakine now lives and works in
Tel Aviv.
