2. INTRO TO HAWK BASKETBALL
Hawk Hill has a lot of tradition – and so does Hawk Basketball. This is poised to be an incredible season, and we’re all lucky to be
a part of it. A lot of talent will step out on that court wearing the crimson and gray, and we want 1,100+ students to show up
with the amazing enthusiasm. Let’s make 54th Airborne this years MVP.
54th
Airborne has your staple “S-J-U” and “De-fense” chants … positive you can pick them up. We’re in college, right? But there
are three “chants”, if you will, that are unique to the Hawks and have been passed down through the ages and remain close to
our hearts. You’ll find them below!
This season can truly be something special if we allow it to be. Let’s all come together as a student section stronger than ever.
TIP-OFF RALLY CRY MINE EYES
After team introductions, the starting 5 take the court
for tip off. A member of the Booster Club, along will
the cheerleaders, will then start our famous rally cry.
The student section response is in bold.
Gimme an ‘H’! – H
Gimme an ‘A’! – A
Gimme a ‘W’! – W
Gimme a ‘K’! – K
Gimme an ‘S’! – S
What do ya got? – HAWKS!
What do ya got? – HAWKS!
What do ya got? – HAWKS!
(to the tune of ‘Oh When the Saints go Marching In’)
Oh when the Hawks, (clap-clap)
Go flying in, (clap-clap)
Oh when the Hawks go flying in,
I wanna be in that number,
Oh when the Hawks go flying in.
(Repeat)
Let’s Go St. Joes! (x3)
After every Hawk win or loss, we stay in the stands to sing
Mine Eyes with all the alumni. Singing it after a victory al-
lows us one more cheer to relish in a W. But after a loss, it
shows our loyalty and dedication to the crimson and gray.
(Sung to the tune of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”)
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Hawk,
He is flying through the doorway ‘cause he never, ever
walks,
He is flying through the rafters like a loyal, loyal Hawk,
The Hawk will never die!
Refrain:
Glory, Glory what a helluva way to fly,
Glory, Glory what a helluva way to fly,
Glory, Glory what a helluva way to fly,
The Hawk will never die!
We have bee to Cincinnati and we’ve been to Buffalo,
We have been to Carolina flying high and flying low,
And when we get to Maryland let everybody know,
The Hawk will never die!
“THE MOST DEFIANT CHEER IN ALL OF COLLEGE SPORTS”
The quote says it all—and it wasn’t taken from a student or fan. It comes from Sports Illustrated, which listed participating
in our battle cry at #12 in their “100 Things You Must do as a Sports Fan Before You Die”. I hope you all know it by now, it’s
T H E H A W K W I L L N E V E R D I E !
The cry pays homage to not only the Hawk, but to the team and fans who never give less than 100%. With everything we
have left in us after 40 minutes of non-stop cheering – win or lose – we shout these 5 words that ring throughout Hagan. In
doing so, we remind the team – and ourselves – to carry the passion forever forward.
