Calves 1-2 weeks old commonly experience umbilical swelling, fever, loss of appetite, and depression due to umbilical abscesses. Treatment includes intramuscular injections of broad-spectrum antibiotics for 5-7 days, symptomatic relief with analgesics, fluids, and corticosteroids, and surgical opening and cleaning of abscesses with disinfectants and local antibiotics.

3. Clinical signs
)common affected calves 1-2 weeks of age(
1-umblical swelling → hot , painful &
drainage purulent material
2-fever , anorexia & depression

4. Treatment
**I/M injection of broad spectrum antibiotic as:
-Streptopencid → ½ vial / 12 hr / 5-7 days
Or Enroflox 1 cm / 40 kg b.wt / I.M
**symptomatic treatment:
a)I/V injection of Analgine → 10 cm
b)I/V injection of Dextrose 5% → ½ - 1 liter
c)I/V ijection of Dexamethasone → 5 cm
**surgical treatment of the abscess:
Opening , removal of purulent material , cleaning ,
disinfection by (H2O2 & Tr.iodine) &local antibiotic
