• Concise presentation of facts and information you have heard, investigated or
observed
3. REPORTING AN EVENT:
• A report should be brief, and must follow a specific format.
• A report is well structured, logical and COHERENT.
• Facts and information must be well researched and error free.
• Passive voice must be used.
• A report must be in past tense.
• Sentences must preferably be short.
• The conclusion must wrap up the report and leave no loose threads.
4. NEWSPAPER REPORT
• Headline: A descriptive title to express the content.
• Byline: The reporter’s name and designation.
• Location and date of reporting: New Delhi, 1st May, 2023.
• Introduction: Brief overview of the event along with expansion of the title.
• Body: 1. A complete account of the event in a chronological sequence, i.e. what,
where, when, how. II. Reaction of witnesses/spectators, authorities.
• Conclusion: Action taken so far or action to be taken in future.
5. MAGAZINE REPORT
• Heading: A descriptive title.
• Byline: Name of the Writer/Reporter
• Introduction: 5 Ws – What, why, when, where and who.
• Body: Description of the event in proper sequence.
• Conclusion: Winding up of the event with a mention of excerpts from speeches or
other relevant quotes.
6. WORKSHEET: NEWSPAPER REPORT
• You are Ramaa/Raman Bhatt, a PTI (Press Trust of India) correspondent. You got
the information about a building collapse in Mumbai. Write a report. (150 – 200
words)
• Hints: 200 feared dead, 10 storey building collapsed, fire brigade on duty, 70 rescued
and hospitalized, rescue operations In progress, many still trapped in the debris.
7. WORKSHEET: MAGAZINE REPORT
• Write a descriptive account of the stampede at IIT Delhi during Rendezvous event
(350-500 words).
