6. Novelist Ivo Andrić (1892-1975)
Legacy
His unique circumstances (born in Bosnia to Croat parents,
later living and working in Serbia) made him a Yugoslav
hero.
He had been a believer in Yugoslav Unity.
Despite International fame, he invested in the development
of the countries literature resources for future generations.
Was the most translated author in east Europe.
His native house in Travnik has been transformed into a
Museum, and his Belgrade flat hosts the Museum of Ivo
Andrić.
1961- Nobel Prize for Literature "for the epic force with which he has traced
themes and depicted human destinies drawn from the history of his country"

Yugoslav film-maker, actor and musician.
Recognized for several internationally acclaimed feature films.
Two-time winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes,
Commander of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Since the mid-2000 residence is Drvengrad (name chosen by Kusturika himself),
a village in the Mokra Gora region he had originally built for the purposes of his
film Life Is a Miracle.
Since 1980, Emir Kusturica has created and played in his The No Smoking
band.
9. Marina Abramovic (1946)
“Grandmother of Performance Art”
Serbian-born artist based in New York.
Performance artist (career began in exploring relationship between performer and
audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind).
2010- Museum of Modern Art held a major retrospective and performance recreation of
her work, the biggest exhibition of performance art in MoMA's history.
During the run of the exhibition, Abramović performed "The Artist is Present," a 736-
hour and 30-minute static, silent piece, in which she sat immobile in the museum's
atrium while spectators were invited to take turns sitting opposite her.

First male player representing Serbia to win a Grand Slam singles title.
Member of Serbian Orthodox Christian church. Awarded the Order of St. Sava, the
highest decoration given for “his demonstrated love for the church and the Serbian
people” (2011).
Created Novak Djokovic Foundation to help disadvantaged children in Serbia obtain
an education and provide resources to lead productive and healthy lives.
National Hero and positive ambassador for the country of Serbia.
