3. INTRODUCTION
• "Warriors of the Rainbow" is Taiwan's
"Braveheart," with a nod to "The Last of the
Mohicans."Based on the true story of a 1930
uprising (the Wushe Incident) by the Taiwanese
aboriginal tribe Seediq against its Japanese military
occupiers, it is bloody and overlong, but has great
heart and an interesting insight into the cultural
traditions of the Seediq, an indigenous people who
have struggled for rights much like American
Indian tribes. Many of the actors in the films are
actual aboriginal tribespeople.
5. Mona rado (protagonist):
• He is the chief of Mahebu village who is a calm,
authoritative and mature seediq tribesman.
• After Chinese cedes Taiwan to Japan, the Japanese
official ban trading with him
• After his father (rudaa lue) got injured during a
conflict his neighboring village fell under Japanese
control
• During 1930 mona rado village had a wedding for
which he had a quarrel with temu walis(toda group)
for the hunting ground
• And mona rado tries to mend relation with an newly
appointed Japanese police but it did not workout
• After a series of scenarios, Mona rado was forced to
raise his war flag against the Japanese, Since he that
nothing can stop the Japanese.
• Dakasnomin native who adapted Japanese persuaded
Mona Rado not to start this war, but Mona rado
persuaded him to join with him.
• In the end, Mona rado was on the top of piles of dead
bodies
6. Temu Walis
• Temu Walis, was a young man of Toda group
• From the beginning, he had feud with Mona
rado
• So, in this film, Temu walis has been
potrayed as he was forced to join hands with
the Japanese force due to his enmity with
Mona Rado
• During a scene where mona rado was into
hunting since his village had a wedding of a
young couple at that time, Temu walis had a
quarrel with Mona rado for the hunting
ground and Temu Wallis was hunting with
his son and a Japanese police officer.
7. Toda Mona
• Toda Mona is the elder son of Mona Rado
• During the wedding, the young
nervous Japanese police Yoishimaaru
insepcts the village during which toda mona
offers him millet wine
• Yoshimaru misunderstood that the wine
offered by Toda mona is unsanitary since
his hands are covered with blood from the
recently hunted animal
• He had a fight with his brother baso mona
• Frightened Yoshimaaru wants to punish the
whole village this was unaccepted by many
villagers and Pihosapo, a young man from
hogo village
8. Mahung Mona
• She is the first daughter of Mona rado
• After she came to know that Mona rado was
planning to wage a war against the Japanese she
felt uncomfortable as she know the outcome
• She stopped her husband from getting into war.
9. Dakis Nomin and Obing Nawi
• Obing Nawi is the wife of Dakis Nomin
• They are among few who adopted Japanese name
education, lifestyle and attempt to mingle with
Japanese people
• During the war, the natives were killing the Japanese
and obing nawi was wearing Japanese clothes but
she was spared because her husband dakis nomin
covered her with the native cloth and they both
survived
10. Obing tadao
• She was the daughter of tado nogan who is
the head of the hogo village
• She was also among some who were
adopted the Japanese name education and
lifestyle
• During the war, she was wearing Japanese
clothes to save her life she hides in the
storeroom
12. LIFESTYLE
• Two Bunun men are hunting a boar,
but they are attacked by a group led
by young Mona Rudao of Seediq
people. Mona Rudao invades the
territory, kills one of them and takes
away the boar. This explains the
lifestyle and highest of the people is
to hunt and conquer the hunt area of
their neighborhood clan
13. JAPNESE CONQUER
• In 1895, China cedes Taiwan to Japan via the Treaty
of Shimonoseki. The Japanese invasion of
Taiwan ends with Japan defeating Han Chinese
resistance. Japanese military officials see the natives
as an obstacle to the resources of Taiwan. So, they
made the native people to work as slaves for them.
14. • The most important ritual for the seediq people has been banned indirectly
as to them the tattooing of the face was a very important ritual which is
enabled by individual after getting the skull of someone from other tribe.
There belief is that this ritual will provide them the pass to reach acrosa
the rainbow bridge which they consider as the road to ancestors or heaven.
15. • The war is likely to begin soon and they
have no other option other than fighting
which is another way to cross the raonbow
bridge and thus they willing to fight for
their beliefs.
• All the tribes join them as they all are now
trying to take back their demolished
customs and practices by fighting the
Japanese. By conquering them they gets the
chance to go back to their civilisation and
cultures from following these
imposed practices. This is a symbolisation
of starting of independant thinking.
16. THE END
• On October 27 the attack takes
place as scheduled, with the killing
of all Japanese men, women, and
children.
• The film ends with Mona Rudao
sitting in the schoolyard which is
full of bodies.(success and
confidence ).

• In their believes, only those who bring the enemy
skull by killing them are allowed to apply tatoos.
Japenese officials banned this habbit.
• Prohibiting the Hunting nature of the tribes, was the
first cultural change made by japnese policemen and
made them as low wage labourers.

• Cultural anthropology focused on the study of cultural
variation among humans and is in contrast to social
anthropology which preceives cultural variations subset
of the anthropological constant.
• Cultural anthropologists study such topics as how
people make their living, how people interact with each
other, what beleifs people hold, and what institution
organize people in the soceity.
22. CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY IN
MOVIE
• Before the japnese invasion, The women tribal were majorly took part
in the weaving. By doing this they believed that they would meet the
anchesters after death. After the invasion the women tribal were used
as household labourers for higher official’s wives.
• Within the tribe some of the people were changing their names,
dressing styles, opting for japnese education and adapting japnese
culture to mingle with japnese.
23. CONCLUSION
• Every group of peoples have their own practice, own culture, and own
way of living. As a fellow human being we should respect others
culture and practices. Enforcing people to do something which is
entirely different form their practices is terrible thing. Earth is filled
with different cultures and practices which has its right to stay as
longer as it can.
