4. Symbols and Hemingway
Hemingway generally gives significant symbols to animals that events
develop around. "As central symbols, Hemingway’s animals are the
manifestations of the psychological states and emotional desires of the
main characters..."(Wright, 2001) These symbols ease to understand
psychology of characters that they are associated. Without them,
characters left half and seen meaningless in some moments.
5. Thesis Statement
In Cat in The Rain, the wife's desires that will make her feel more like a
woman and psychological statement find body with the cat symbol. In
addition, mostly the rain directly related with the cat and represents
emotional conflict with her husband and sad mood in the story.

"It isn’t any fun to be a poor kitty out in the rain.” (Hemingway, 1925)
7. The Cat and The Rain
Wife can empathize with the cat since wife knows how it feels stucking
under the table in the rain. This is how she feels at that moment.
Loneless, fear, depression. The cat is the wife. Moreover, the reason of
all the pain that cat possessed with is the rain. The husband in that
moment.

"I want to pull my hair back tight and smooth and make a big knot … I
want to have a kitty to sit on my lap and purr when I stroke her"
(Hemingway, 1925)

The cat called as she many times in the story. It strenghtens the
possibility of that cat is the woman. If we assume so. She wants to be
stroken by someone basicly wants attention. Moreover, she wants to
more feel like a woman that is not possible with her short hair. But the
only response of the husband is the "shut up".

The relationship between the woman and husband symbolized by
rain. In addition, the rain mostly used by Hemingway in order to
describing the setting at the start of story and it is preperation for
reader to understand the theme of story which is sad.
11. Conclusion
Everything into consideration, In Cat in The Rain, writer constructed
another realm by using symbols. While physical action happen in the
story, physiological reflection of them seen in the other one. There is
always different process behind the scene thanks to symbols. In
addition, the connection between realm provided mainly by the cat
and the rain symbols.
