QIBING LIBRARY - WEPENER
ABOUT
Being an iconic building for the local community of Wepener in
the Free State Province, the Qibing Library still remains in
touch with it’s surrounding context and scale. It’s structural
building materials are reminiscent of the area - earthy brown
face bricks, concrete blocks and warm painted colours.
This contemporary library caters for every sector of the local
community - making reference to the entire spectrum from
the Toy Library section for toddlers to the adult reading
section. A variety of community needs are also addressed; i.e.
facilities such as the multi-purpose hall, study- and reference
areas and media rooms.
A singular red structural beam binds all the different sectors of
the design together as it flows throughout the interior space.
Each area has been colour coded so as to assist in orientating
the visitor.
