unresolved component references
because they have been overwritten or
stored in an incorrect location? What
is the cost of this rework?
• Are designers unnecessarily working
on designs that already exist because
they cannot easily search for
completed designs that fit their needs?
What is the cost of the time spent on
this redesign effort?
• Do you have issues where employees
are accessing design data before it has
been released from engineering, or that
is no longer the latest revision? What
is the cost of rework due to tasks
done with outdated data?
• Do manufacturing personnel make
decisions due to production issues that
cause parts to manufactured differently
and affect quality? What is the cost of
merchandise returns due to
avoidable quality issues?
• Are changes made in manufacturing
that affect design intent and the
delivered product capabilities? Did
product sales decrease because the
manufactured product did not
deliver specified capabilities?
• Are you able to coordinate changes
across different engineering disciplines
(mechanical, electronics and software,
manufacturing, etc.? If not, what is the
rework and quality costs due to not
properly assessing change impact?
