INTRODUCTION
This
technical
paper
is
intended
to
provide
the
reader
with
a
general
understanding
of
how
to
use
the
electronic
CCPensieve
(CAFE
Conferring
Pensieve).
The
CCPensieve
is
a
web-‐based
conferring
notebook
that
has
been
designed
as
an
option
to
the
paper
and
pencil-‐conferring
notebook
(the
Pensieve).
As
with
The
Pensieve,
the
CCPensieve
is
a
tool
to
implement
the
CAFE
Menu
literacy
system.
The
CAFE
Menu
literacy
system
is
well
documented
in
The
CAFE
Book
(Boushey,
Moser,
2009).
The
form
and
functionality
is
derived
from
The
Pensieve
with
some
changes
made
to
account
for
an
online
display.
It
is
used
for
individual
reading,
group
reading
conferring,
and
individual
writing.
There
is
also
an
Other
tab
that
has
been
implemented
to
allow
for
other
conferring
purposes
such
as
Word
Work,
Daily
5
Math,
behavior
management,
and
other
subjects.
The
CCPensieve
features
are
expanded
below:
Premium
and
Basic
Membership
Features:
• Students’
reading
levels
are
documented
in
a
series
of
snapshots
throughout
the
year
and
can
be
displayed
in
a
chart
to
track
progress.
• The
Calendar
shows
upcoming
meetings
with
students
and
groups
so
teachers
can
keep
track
of
scheduled
conferences.
• A
Keeping
Track
form
shows
how
often
each
student
meets
to
confer
with
a
teacher.
The
dates
automatically
pull
from
the
conferring
session
and
are
displayed
in
a
chart
for
future
reference.
• The
CAFE
Menu
section
displays
the
CAFE
Menu
strategies
and
goals
and
offers
links
to
thedailycafe.com
where
a
user
can
find
additional
support
for
each
of
the
respective
strategies
and
goals.
• Students
can
be
archived
so
that
they
do
not
show
up
in
the
main
class
list
without
having
to
delete
them
from
the
teacher’s
profile.
This
is
ideal
when
a
student
leaves
a
class
mid-‐year
or
at
the
end
of
a
year
when
a
student
is
no
longer
enrolled
in
the
class.

• At
the
end
of
a
year,
students
and
their
reading
data
can
be
transferred
to
another
teacher’s
class
who
then
becomes
the
assigned
teacher
with
full
editing
privileges.
Premium
Membership
Features:
• A
teacher
can
share
an
enrolled
student
with
another
teacher
allowing
for
simultaneous
data
entry
by
each
teacher.
Both
teachers
can
view
the
past
conferring
sessions
relating
to
that
student.
• Printer-‐friendly
reports
of
students’
work
can
be
generated
for
a
physical
record
or
to
distribute
a
progress
report
electronically
to
an
appropriate
adult.
HOW
TO
INSTALL
THE
CCPENSIEVE
The
CCPensieve
was
created
as
an
online
application
so
that
all
users
can
access
it
from
any
device
and
any
browser
provided
there
is
an
Internet
connection.
To
gain
entrance
to
The
CCPensieve,
a
user
must
go
to
ccpensieve.com
and
click
the
Buy
Now
button.
Through
PayPal,
users
can
purchase
a
one-‐year
membership
to
the
site
that
gives
them
full
access
to
the
full-‐featured
website.
Purchasers
may
select
the
Basic
or
Premium
product
levels.
HOW
TO
